Bit overwhelmed with ARB fridge. Please help me set it up so I'm good to go?

Some Optimas are starting batteries(red), some are dual purpose with deep cycle capabilities(yellow), and some come in both persuasions (blue). All Odysseys are deep cycle. I think all Northstar and Deka AGMs are deep cycle, but confirm that before you buy. Flooded lead acid deep cycles are...

Dual Battery System for 2003 F-150

I am a fan of dual battery systems, and have had dual/triple batteries in my trucks for the last 17 or so years. They have saved my butt several times, and thus are worth it to me. Mounting them can be a pain. Wiring them can be a pain, so keep it simple. Maintaining them can be a pain, so...

    Dual Battery Basics

Well, sorta... If you try a long pull with a big winch and a "normal" battery/alternator combination, the winch will heat up quickly as the voltage delivered from the battery drops. It's a vicious cycle, and the more voltage you can maintain, the better the winch will run. At a given load, as...

    storage bags...

Harbor Freight has colored plastic tags with a clear cover, in ten-packs for cheap. I use those on my tool bags, colore coded, with a label printed on the paper tag which is protected from moisture by the plastic. Red for emergency stuff, green for saws and knives, yellow for tire repair, etc...

Drivetrain damage: Tire Size VS. Tire Weight ??

Based upon the pic of the subject vehicle, I'd be more concerned about front suspension and steering component stress and failure related to the offset on those wheels. Big tires will aggravate that, but the wheels are probably a bigger problem than the tires. Tall tires will also affect...

    Mr. Emergency Traction Track

They get a little heavy when you stack a bunch of them, but I found a black cordura keyboard case on CraigsList that should hold at least six MaxTrax. I think some of the cases come with a pair of wheels (like luggage), or you could use a gun case with wheels. If you stack them in a case, just...

    Overland Journal testing Sand Mats/Ladders

Re MaxTrax vs Treds, the decision should be based partially on the weight of your vehicle. Treds will probably work better as bridging ladders (stacked) for a 2-door Jeep than for a Ram Cummins. When Summit was closing out the last generation of Treds, they were a viable choice and an...

    Dual Battery Basics

For relatively short runs with stock alternator, 1/0 should be fine. Best way to buy it is to get welding cable from CraigsList, lots of 1/0 around for cheap. Make sure the specs of the cable you buy match what you need (stranded copper, 105C rating, etc.). If you find black cable and want...

And put the fuses where they are easy to see. You don't want to be chasing electrical issues on the trail.

Under bed mounted water tank/vs jerry cans

I'm in So Cal, so freezing is not usually much of an issue. An advantage of the rackmount tank is that I can winterize it by draining a gallon or so to make space for expansion. If it freezes, nothing should break.

Under bed mounted water tank/vs jerry cans

I think the problem with polyethylene tanks (aside from strength) is that they let light through the walls and that lets stuff grow inside the tank. If you use PVC, be sure to paint the outside to protect it from ozone and UV degradation. Paint also keeps it opaque so that light does not get...

Under bed mounted water tank/vs jerry cans

I have a big PVC tank on the roof rack of my truck, and it does go funky if left for a long time. Before a trip, I fill the tank most of the way with a fresh load of water and a little bleach, drive around to clean everything, then drain the bleach/water into a few buckets, with a quick rinse...

    WTB: Pull-Pal

Anybody have a Pull-Pal they want to sell? I have an RW9000, so could use another for double pulls. Or, could use an RW11000, RW14000, or even an RW16000 if price is right. Preference is for the RW14000. I'm in So Cal and get to AZ with some frequency, so anything between L.A. area and Yuma...

Bit overwhelmed with ARB fridge. Please help me set it up so I'm good to go?

If that is the biggest battery you can fit in there, then the answer is yes. I suspect you may be able to stuff an Odyssey 1750 into that truck, but I have never owned one of those trucks. Group for group, Odyssey's specs and quality are as good as anyone's, better than most. If you do find...

Bit overwhelmed with ARB fridge. Please help me set it up so I'm good to go?

If you buy a new battery for the trip (sounds like you should), don't just buy the group size that the dealer says fits your truck. Buy the biggest battery that will physically fit into the truck with the hood closed. Get as much amp hour capacity as you can, and get a deep cycle battery. All...
