Best toilet for weekend adventures with the family?

john61ct beat me to it, but basically, for weekend use you could probably go all season without emptying. The longer the feces sit, the smaller the mass as they dry out. (Look at the various manufacturers' websites and read the sections on vacation cabins, etc. Two people, living in a vehicle...

    Drop in replacement alternator 150A

Roof mounted, 24v, electric. Haven't actually measured, but specced to pull over 50A. I looked for compressor options, but couldn't find any. Kalori, now acquired by Espar. Would not recommend for various reasons. RK4 Klim – Kalori

    Drop in replacement alternator 150A

Hence my question of Joe. But remember, the load on the belts is dependent on the electrical load. The only time I am going to see a big load is in the summer when the cab air conditioner is running. And, if necessary, I can set up things to shed load elsewhere.

New trailer - understand battery system

At the risk of blowing my own horn, you REALLY need to read these three articles, otherwise you may not be able to sort out the advice you are getting. -- Watts Up! Plan Electrical System (wordpress.com) -- Charging Up! Battery Charge Slides (wordpress.com) -- Doubling Up! Dual Battery Slides...

Upgrading Alternator to charge house batteries faster

That is a quote from the Lifeline manual. Other brands/formulations may vary, of course. True. This was given to me by a tech at AMSolar who swore, on holy relics, that he had gotten that number from the engineers in the back room at Lifeline, not the sales types. I have used it for years. The...

    Drop in replacement alternator 150A

Haven't actually replaced the alternator yet - on my list of New Year's projects. (Hence my question of Joe917.)

Upgrading Alternator to charge house batteries faster

Read and understand john61ct's comments. They are correct and, FWIW, are the same as the Lifeline tech manual. And I'll bet a hot latte that the other decent manufacturers are about the same, with adjustments for AGM vs. wet cell. My point is that I damaged the AGMs on my truck as I assumed...

Upgrading Alternator to charge house batteries faster

As you will note from some of the comments above, you may have a greater need for that 75A than you realize. Idling is very useful when you want to run the microwave and the battery is low, but it will not appreciably charge the bank. And the key thing is that you want those long hours of...

Upgrading Alternator to charge house batteries faster

I misspoke slightly. Can't copy and paste, but on page 19 of the Lifeline tech manual it quotes a max inrush of 5, not 6, C. As it turns out, most of us are more likely to have a problem on the minimum, rather than the maximum, at least once the banks pass about 400 Ah. Seems we chat with the...

    Drop in replacement alternator 150A

Sent you an e-mail with info on 150A Bosch. Joe, 200A? Wow! My German friends expressed concern about the load on the drive belts. Any issues?

Upgrading Alternator to charge house batteries faster

Lifeline/Concorde is nuts, they call for up to 6C!!! Not 0.6C, but six times the capacity of the bank. The mind boggles. So, size really does matter. My shore power charger tops out at about 100A.

Upgrading Alternator to charge house batteries faster

Interesting. With a Chevrolet, which has frisky voltages, as high as 15.5v @ 32F/0C, I would see 50 to 75A. This was 2x 2.0AWG with a run of 25 feet. This was a 600Ah battery bank, about 125Ah down. But, as noted, after 30 minutes the rate dropped to under 50A. This is one reason that most...

Upgrading Alternator to charge house batteries faster

Some comments: -- As noted, most of your issues have to do with the nature of lead acid batteries. The charge rate is largely a function of the difference between the charging voltage and the battery voltage. AGM batteries have lower internal resistance, but the voltage still rises rapidly and...

    Parking brake release issues

There is a knob with the ((P)) logo on the console/engine cover. Don’t really know what it does, but try turning it.

    Exhaust Brake

Having crossed the Sierra Nevada and the Rockies before I knew that that botton was an exhaust brake, I can testify - you want the exhaust brake. A 5 litre diesel has NO real retarding effect on 9k kilos of vehicle!

K5 Camper. My offroad home away from home.

Having had both an manual and an automatic, I would offer this on the automatic. -- For crawling, get into low range earlier than you would with a manual. There is no penalty for this as you rarely use the upper gears in lower range - now you can. :) -- Some modern auto transmissions have a...

Shocks 002. Springs matter. Or rather the internal damping or resistance of the spring matters. In order: -- Elliptical Springs (technically semi-elliptical): As used on the MB NL2, Blazers, and the back end, at least, of lots of pickups. Best toilet for weekend adventures with the family?

Mike, Greetin's from Colt Creek State Park! We typically used Thetford products or nothing. Neither made any difference if the flap was open or when dumping. I have heard that "Happy Campers" is rather magic. We are trying in our grey tank for cleaning and the odd time when we get a smell. So...

    Uprated Shocks

Shock absorbers 001. Most shocks are valved at about 40/60. That is 40% resistance to compression and 60% resistance to expansion. Basically, this means that when you hit a bump, the shock absorber compresses easily and then controls the rebound, thus "absorbing" the shock. This is ideal at...
