Again, if you are thinking of the Andes, nothing in the US comes close. Not in altitude but more to the point, not in duration - that is, time spent up high. 5,000 feet is the low altitude to which we would evacuate heart attacks. In the Andes you can expect to spend weeks above 10,000 feet...

Unless you have an older diesel that can take high sulphur diesel, save yourself a lot of aggravation and go with a gasoline engine. You may want to re-gear a bit lower for high altitudes, big tires, heavy campers, etc. You will be spending a lot of time well over 5,000 feet.

FWIW - I have had the pleasure of examining Jon's truck and camper work. Everything that he has done is just that little bit better than my truck, so I would be very inclined to accept his counsel. (Of course, it is probably just Heather's influence ... )

Gotta share that with a friend who would loooooove to buy our truck - but needs seats for two kids. Ironically, we got the truck because the original owner/builder had one seat for their child, and then his wife announced two more!

???? Haven't had propane on two vehicles since 2013 and never had any question but that they were RVs. Certainly no problem at campgrounds - they don't care.

As I own a 917, I'll play. (See links in signature.) Our camper sits at about 16,000 lbs., so we are well under the 18,000+ lbs. max weight. Ours was built as a pumper and appears to have one extra thick leaf in the rear. It rides very well, but as VerMonster would note, it might ride better...

Short answer on the Blue Sea ACR is "probably not." The ACR connect voltage is something like 13.6v and that is very close to the rest/float voltage of lithium iron batteries. LiFEp04 batteries tend to hold at their rest voltage rather than dropping back the to "full" voltage of lead acid...
