Best toilet for weekend adventures with the family?

Agreed. But as we actually have a compost pile, our weekend trips do actually get composted the full six+ months. Longer trips we dump in drop toilets, commercial dumpsters, RV sewers (with water), cow pastures, etc. The real joy of a composting toilet becomes evident the first time you...

Bog roll = loo paper = toilet paper.

    Uprated Shocks

I would go with the German option, if only 'cause they'll fit and the price is right. Had Fox external reservoir shocks on the Tiger and they were great, but probably way overkill. We are simply never going to drive this kind of truck, on that much washboard, at that high a speed, for that...

K5 Camper. My offroad home away from home.

Never! That is the whole art of this thing! And to be fair, most of it was our fault. In both cases had been living for years in the tropics at sea level - only to cross the Sahara in November and zoom up over 10,000 feet without proper coats, sleeping bags, gloves, etc. Trivia, the Tourag say...

K5 Camper. My offroad home away from home.

Wow! Please permit a mild what-might-have-been hijack. In 1977, Beloved Spouse and I were looking to replace our 1972 Blazer. We had owned it for four years in Africa and South America. It it crossed the Sahara, driven down the Andes, and again and again, we had frozen in the cold. We wanted...

Best toilet for weekend adventures with the family?

Where is this thing going? Mounted inside a truck, I much prefer a composting toilet, specifically the C-Head. (And I can bore you to tears with the reasons.) Otherwise, get a shovel and a bog roll and be done with it. Beloved Spouse and I used the latter for decades.

Merc 1124 AF Michelin XZY 385/65/s22.5 versus 425/65/22.5

I will simply throw out: -- After a total failure of a US made (kludged?) 20" rim and the agony of ex-military 20" that were not round, I followed the example of VerMonster and ordered Kron Prinz 22.5's from Germany. Wonderfully, wonderfully round. -- I am running General Tire 385/65x22.5...

    Growing family, big plans....Smaller Budget

Again, if you are thinking of the Andes, nothing in the US comes close. Not in altitude but more to the point, not in duration - that is, time spent up high. 5,000 feet is the low altitude to which we would evacuate heart attacks. In the Andes you can expect to spend weeks above 10,000 feet...

    Growing family, big plans....Smaller Budget

Unless you have an older diesel that can take high sulphur diesel, save yourself a lot of aggravation and go with a gasoline engine. You may want to re-gear a bit lower for high altitudes, big tires, heavy campers, etc. You will be spending a lot of time well over 5,000 feet.

    Chassis and Tank Talk

FWIW - I have had the pleasure of examining Jon's truck and camper work. Everything that he has done is just that little bit better than my truck, so I would be very inclined to accept his counsel. (Of course, it is probably just Heather's influence ... )

    1124 AF Double Cab

Gotta share that with a friend who would loooooove to buy our truck - but needs seats for two kids. Ironically, we got the truck because the original owner/builder had one seat for their child, and then his wife announced two more!

    Winnebago EKKO

???? Haven't had propane on two vehicles since 2013 and never had any question but that they were RVs. Certainly no problem at campgrounds - they don't care.

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

As I own a 917, I'll play. (See links in signature.) Our camper sits at about 16,000 lbs., so we are well under the 18,000+ lbs. max weight. Ours was built as a pumper and appears to have one extra thick leaf in the rear. It rides very well, but as VerMonster would note, it might ride better...

Automatic or Manual Transmission for Expedition Use?

That is "No hay." It has a cousin, "Si hay, pero no tenemos." (Yes, there are - that is, the thing you need exists, but we don't have it.) ;) (Lotta years in Latin America.)

    Battleborn? and or advice

Short answer on the Blue Sea ACR is "probably not." The ACR connect voltage is something like 13.6v and that is very close to the rest/float voltage of lithium iron batteries. LiFEp04 batteries tend to hold at their rest voltage rather than dropping back the to "full" voltage of lead acid...
