If you can get one of the new hilux's....they are a really nice truck, but in standard form they have their limitations....you'd need to raise them and fit some larger rubber to begin with.
the 1KD engine is a pearler....343nM from 1300 right through to 3000rpm....
the auto is great to drive...
Yeah, they aren't approved for road use here either, but that doesnt stop heaps of people driving them on the roads.
Heres a video below of some local aussie fella's offroading in the forests round here, almost all are running either Jungle Trekkers or Centipedes......it should give you a good...
Heres a recent pic of my hilux on a day out wheeling in the hills-
Was the first trip with my front ARB Locker installed and my high clearance front bashplate....both of which performed beatuifully and surprised me both with the extra clearance gained underneath and the traction available...
Not sure if your considering brands less popular than the big name brands, but I have a couple below you may want to consider.
we all know that BFG,Maxxis,Toyoand Interco Trxus sell the 255/85x16, but since your considering something larger possibly, let me forward you onto the Silverstone...
There is a bit of variance in width when it comes to the 285/75x16 tyre range.....I see via the manufacturers that the MTZ is a norrower 285 at 11.3 inches, the Maxxis Bighorns are 11.6 inches and my Silverstones are in reality almost 12 inches wide(even thou their website states 11.3)
I know...
Send your FJ cruisers here to australia.....we've all been bitching about not getting them here.
Throw in the hilux diesel engine and you guys wont be able to keep up with the demand here.
make sure you also include a single cab-chassis version so we can put a tray on the back like the hilux...
Pretty certain the current tacoma and hilux have the exact same front end suspension and drivetrain.
the hilux chassis is alot stronger than the Tacoma , because we use them more here for load carrying and towing.
I too would love an SAS conversion on the hilux, but I could not justify the...
G'day guys,
Frankly Im surprised no one has posted this over here yet, considering every other board has details of it.
New Goodyear MTR is out, sounds tuff by the description but looks abit weaker in the tread design...
Hey all,
Just seen mention of this size tyre on the FJ cruiser forum and was wondering who makes this size tyre?
I cant seem to find it on any manufacturers websites.
this size should be about 33.8x10.3x17 correct?
anyone know?
if anyone is going to go the 1KD engine swap, go for the updated engine in the Prado.....
the prado's 1KD is the second generation of this engine whereas the hilux uses the first generation of this engine....big difference in power.
hilux makes 343nM stock, Prado makes 400nM stock.
add a chip...
We already have these laws here in Australia dn have for some time. If it wasnt for the law requiring bullbars to be airbag compliant, I would have had a tube front bar on my hilux already, but the only alternative is bars like the ARB bars which are good but not great.
Ill be watching this aswell, as Im gearing up to build me own rear wheel carrier too for my hilux.
I think Ill be making more of a swing out "gate" style carrier and mount the 285 tyre in the centre with enough room for possibly a 34 or 35 tyre down the track but not to reduce departure angle...
