i Own one, they are awesome....that is the same amount of power that our prado's have here in standard form..... mate, when it comes to diesels, you yanks are soooo far behind the eight ball.
diesels are the way to go, awesome low down torque.
just wondering, has anybody got a set of the Toyo's fitted to their vehicle yet and if so maybe a test report?
some pics wouldnt go astray either of them fitted to a vehicle.
in regards to fitting 255's on your truck, would it be better to fit them on a stock rim, i.e. closer tucked inwards due to clearance issues or would it be better to get a wider offset rim and do some trimming to fit and gain the benefit of a slightly wider track?
I think going the wider...
Thanks for the post OP, greatly appreciated....even from downunder :clapsmile
My 285/75x16 buckshots havent worn out yet for me to replace them but I am always on the look out for my next tyre.
I was contemplating getting a set of Simex Extreme Trekker's in 32/9.5x15 (overall size is...
'Doc,
Just a quick one, was wondering, you've probably mentioned it before but I couldnt be bothered searchin again, are you running 16x7 or 16x8 rims, and when crawling offroading in "the hard stuff', what pressure do you dop your tyres down to?
Thanks mate ;)
Fortuner Diff Gears
G'day all,
After some exhaustive research Ive found out that Toyota does make a genuine 4.55:1 diff gear set that would suit the Hilux and Tacoma that shares the 120 platform.
It is the Toyota Fortuner found in Thailand. It is a wagon based 4x4 built upon the toyota hilux...
thanks for that mate, our hilux's come with 29 inch tyres stock, and yeah, the same thing with the 4.3's, wish there was somebody to make em.
4.56 does seem like the next best option......will be following this thread, just a real bummer that getting the front and rear re-geared costs so much!
what are the standard gear ratio of the Taco's ?
The hilux's are geared to 3.73:1 standard, so using basic mathematics that would equate to a 4.3:1 ratio to be ideal for a 33inch tyre would it not? and the 4.56:1 would suit a 35inch tyre?
Unless you wanted to run a 33 inch tyre with a bit more...
The engine is awesome, great low down torque. But I feel with the 33's it lacks abit from take off but thats expected. there are a heap of power up units available and exhaust systems aswell but they cost abit and will take some time to save up for.
the results thou change it to a totally new...
G'day guys,
made another mod in the past week, got me mate to rebuild the front Fox Struts and added another spacer on the lower shaft below the coil seat. This 15mm spacer added 30mm more height to the front of the vehicle and preloaded the front coil abit to make it slightly stiffer.
This...
Thanks for the comments guys. Like mention above, the price tag was the major thing holding me back. Even thou I work for Toyota and can get a not bad discount on new vehicles, the price of the 70 series wagon (which is what I would have got had I been able to afford it) was still too much for...
Heres just a coupla pics with the 130 watt spotlights fitted to the front of the rack. Appearance wise, theres not gonna be much more to her, maybe a tonneau cover for the back in the future, wouldnt mind some sort of spare wheel carrier, or one integrated into a custom built rear tailgate. who...
So Dave, whats next on the "to do List" ?
and dont tell me that that is it, theres always more.......
How about this? (Now looks carefully)
Taken off a TRD Hilux engine bay today......:friday:
Redline,
May I please ask you on your thoughts of the 255/85x16 Bighorns, as I intend to purchase these next time when my 285/75x16 Buckshots wear out.
Can you tell me your thoughts and views on their wear both on and offroad?
Where they may seem to excel (if at all) and what their flaws are...
G'Day 'Doc',
Rig's looking good mate! I rang Opposite Lock again this arvo just for you mate, and asked them if they would 'by chance' know if the hilux auxiliary tank would fit the Taco and his reply was....." Wouldn't Have a F'n Idea! ", but he went on to say that if somebody did try and...
Doc,
I rang Opposite Lock today to inquire bout those auxiliary tanks - the smaller one (70litres) that sits above the spare wheel/tyre costs $885 Australian, and they didnt have the larger one on file that replaces the entire spare wheel area, but he did quote me on a larger replacement tank...
Doc,
check this one out, from Opposite Lock aswell, it too sits inplace of the spare wheel and has a capacity of 154 litres, thats 154 extra litres aswell as the standard tank -

great find there Doc - it would sit very nice and neatly.....you just gave me anoither idea for my hilux.....LOL
Im not too happy about the spare wheel sitting 65mm lower, but if you had the rear wheel carrier as you do, this would be ideal.
I might call them tomorrow and ask how much it'd...
Doc, you'll love the benefit of the snorkel, so much more security and peace of mind for the engines safety when traversing through deep water, that and getting bit more fresh air for the engine when going down dusty trails or behind someone........snorkel's are popular as here in OZ, Im...
