True, but at that point you have all ready invested in a set of 2.5 coil-overs and the springs that came with them.
Want to change that ride hieght or compensate for a heavier load? Better get out your floor Jack and spanner wrench and hope you have enough room to spin the wrench with the...
Reduced mass is the big advantage. With less reciprocating mass you can use lighter springs and longevity goes way up along with perfomance. Pneumatic valve springs is where it's at. Or the freevalve.
On a side note, anybody remember the Coates spherical valve head?
Ummmmm, new bags are 150ish a piece. Try getting so e custom rate coil springs for anywhere near that. Or a custom leaf pack. All those fancy electonic fill valves are for people with more money than brains.
Any suspension as only as good as the guy that designed it. Unfortunately there are a lot of bolt on air ride kits that are very poorly designed. Changing ride height with pressure is a bandaid. Changing pressure to account for I differing loads is a god send.
Pushrod 4V is great for diesels where they don't rev that high. In something performance oriented like the Vette, all that valve train weight becomes a liability.
The biggest issue with 2V is plug placement. Why Dodge went with the twin plugs. In my view, a SOHC 3V with twin plugs would be the best cumbustion chamber for a torque truck motor.
I have seen it done both ways for plating. Zinc is soft enough to clean out easily with a tap and a lot of lube. If you plug them it needs to be plastic bolts or you will weld steel ones in. Tapered rubber plugs also work for blind holes.
Racing the Baja 1000 would be miserable in a G wagon. NORRA might be doable but still not what I would call fun. If you have plenty of spares and some really good friends to help you might be able to finish NORRA. B1K, no chance.
Looking at more pics I see the camper is solid mounted also. With all the flexing the frame does, either the mounts take up the flex or pass it on to the camper. Since everything is solid mounted it may not make a difference.
Living on the beach in SoCal, my due buggy and bikes would gum up quick. If I had kept the due buggy it would have got EFI. I got good at cleaning a Webber. My new MX bike is a KTM300TPI. Nothing better than a fuel infected two smoker with the magic button.
Funny thing, if the buggy had Pemex...
It's not a percieved value if you have anything with a carburetor. Ethanol in a carb will end badly unless it is driven constantly. I will spend the extra rather than clean the white pudding out of my carbs everytime it sits for more than a couple days.
