    70 series at Overland Expo

That is a very nice 70 series. Chris and Annie camped next to our display at the Expo, and I had a chance to admire his truck and trailer all weekend. The truck is licensed in Ohio. Mike S

    Need FJ60 advice.

Diesels are a whole different ball game. I agree that a turbo in a diesel is a good thing.

    12V outlet box

Corey Why not mount it right next to the light? Or remove the factory light and mount the box in its place, with a plug in map light. I mounted a fan and chart light in my last Extreme and it worked well.

    Need FJ60 advice.

Clark, I drove a 60 for years. There are two things that make a 60 very comfprtable to drive... OME Suspension and an H55F transmission. I set mine up with these goodies (and a few more) and drove it ll over the West. The tires were 31X10.50 and I could cruise at 70 while staying just below...

    Quality of RTT's Fabric

Thanks for posting that, Corey. The fabric specification on a RTT depends a great deal on the design. Traditional African and Australian RTTs are manufactured with cotton canvas, which does work well in the climates that these tents are designed for. Lately there has been a trend towards...

    Coleman stainless cooler

I have one of the stainless coolers. Works fine, tough. Had it about 8 years or so and no complaints, except the standard funky latch.

12v bunk pad added to RTT to try winter camping next year

Corey... An option would be to tap into the factory 12V line where it enters the headliner, and fasten a socket to the inside ceiling. When I installed the folding fan in my Maggiolina Extreme I just tapped into the factory wire. It didn't draw much (maybe one amp?) and worked well. Do you know...

    Maggiolina mesh too course?

An additional zipper could be put across the bottom, but you would have to 'capture' the ends of the zipper (like zipping up a jacket, but sideways and on your knees), which would become tiresome. The mattress fit closely into the bottom shell, and the inside flap, when tucked under the...

    Packing Heat...who does it?

I did not read this entire thread. So excuse me if this has already been pointed out. In the state of California, if you are transporting a gun it must be: 1. Unloaded (if a handgun, no magazine in the gun). 2. It must be in a separate lockable compartment of the car OR in a locked case...

    80 Series V8 conversion.

My TLC is a 1996 FZJ with stock US engine. The 4.5L fuel injected engine has a lot of low gear power, but comes up short towing on the highway, expecially when you are driving in mountainous country. I had situations when I lacked adequate power when towing my loaded OR trailer - at about 1500...

    60 Series Suspension Question

The whole kit is the way to go. Whether you need to spend a lot more ofr shackles and steering dampener is up to you. You will notice a huge difference in your 60 with the OME suspension. I went heavy with my 60, and the whole package. Excellent!

    80 Series V8 conversion.

I've had an 80 for several years and have driven turbo'd 80s. I also have a 24' Airstream that weighs 3500 empty, and about 4500 to 5000 loaded. I would not even attempt to tow it with the 80 unless it had a V8 and airbags - the stock 80 (or even turbo'd) just doesn't have enough power to tow a...

    RTT on an Isuzu Trooper?

If you do not have side rails, I would strongly recommend a Thule track system that bolts to the roof with certnuts. This set up is about as strong as any factory rack. It will accept both Yakima and Thule towers - many as you like. I believe that the rating is 165 Lbs (Dynamic) and the static...

    First time Cruiser buyer? Tips?

I owned a 40, a 60, and now an 80. I iked them all. The 80 WILL have a more demanding maintenance schedule than a 60... 60s just run. For long distance driving, towing, etc. the 80 is better. The 60 and the 80 are close in off road performance with the edge to an 80 with lockers. That said, I...
