    Chassis and Tank Talk

Hi Jon! Thanks so much for this, yes DFF (thanks for putting me in contact, learning so much simply by following your thread and blog). He is speccing out some matching shocks for me too and Ive opted for a 10mm lift (instead of the standard 30-40mm). DFF seem to know the axle weights as they...

    Chassis and Tank Talk

I am planning on adding a slightly larger fuel tank on the passenger side, i was wonder if something like this is or this is just a bolt on affair? I am also currently planning to move the air tanks into the center, I am not planning to change them out for Aluminium I don't think. I have on...

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

ok, i got some answers from LN2 forum that you cannot have mixed axles. I don't really understand the diagram below but it was shared by a very helpful member there called Stefan, he also said: "in very rare cases front axles on 4x4-trucks have a longer axle drive ratio than rear axles, This is...

    1124 AF Double Cab

I had an ideal to repurpose a Zepro unit, you can get the medium sized ones here used almost for free. A bit of a challenge adapting it to horizontal load i suspect ill end up using a specialist truck builder (PTO here in oslo) and consult with them about my options. We want it to be able to...

    1124 AF Double Cab

Firstly, nice truck! Ive only had mine a couple of weeks but I have the same storage dilemmas (2-4 enduro mtb, kite gear, ski touring gear, climbing, hiking and camping equipment). So we figured a large under bed garage is essential as well as a rear lifting bike garage. Plus plenty of tie...

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

charlieaarons, according to LN2 guys you are mostly likely right. They told me to check on the Axles directly and most likely they are both 39:8, i have asked to clarify how they know its 39:8 but i have presumed because of the AL prefix.. apologies for highjacking the thread..

    Lowly the Lorry. . .

Thanks! I have reached out to them and already gotten a response from Harald! I am not sure how accurate my final weight calculation are atm, also, I have no idea how to split that front and rear...

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

it makes sense if we go back to the torque bias of the rear. With a higher rear ratio the center diff will send more torque to the rear, in my mind anyhow.. Or will it be the opposite way around and send to the front?

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

well, it has been operating fine for 29 years in one of the snowiest districts of Norway so im assuming it drives fine in winter condition..

    Lowly the Lorry. . .

Hi @VerMonsterRV ! Id love to have your contacts for the parabolic spring kits you mentioned. Im thinking of changing these over this winter to improve ride and save some weight while I change wheels at the same time. Can you recommend some uprated shocks too? Regarding the 3 vs 4 leafs, it...

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

According to the VIN my axles are mixed, fast on the back, medium on the front.. with my limited understanding on the low level workings of differentials I can imagine a mixed axle ratio can either be compensated for in the hubs and/or plays a part of rear wheel drive bias (unless there is a...

    MB Atego 1018 A 4x4 (Ex-Bundeswehr)

ahh, the current dilemma! After talking with most of the manufacturers in Germany and EU that specialise in this area it really appears demand is very very high indeed and prices have adapted to match! Not only are the main companies quoting over 40k€ for an empty box with no sub-frame or...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

We have 3 dogs but mostly only travel with one or 2. My brown lab is getting a bit too old now for skiing and MTB trips so he stays with my mother. The black dog in those pictures is Billie, a Borzoi-Poodle mix. Yea, Norway is beautiful indeed. Another project of ours is a mountain cabin, still...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

We are currently staying at a mountain cabin owned by my fiance's family. Using a lot of this weekend planning the building stages, financial aspects, etc. Long workdays this week have not left much brain capacity left during the midweek evenings so taking a weekend to do this makes sense. Our...

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

Thanks for those links, the PDF report is very detailed indeed… I am not planning such a task at present until I get to know my vehicle a bit more. Regarding my mixed ratio axles, i have some musings... I think it's the central differential that compensates for the ratio difference with...

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

Thanks! I totally missed this post! I knew the ratios just didn't know how to read them! Right, im not sure why I have a mix of axles but I am sure someone here can explain that, if it is not normal etc. I am also adding the bigger 385/65/22.5 wheels in the spring time so ill have to see how...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

With regards to high and low speed axles, I can't seem to find any charts or info to determine which mine are, posted mine below according to my vin, can anyone shed some light on what i have? maybe @VerMonsterRV @Sitec @Joe917 , etc ? AL 3/8 D-4,7 - FRONT AXLE, RATIO 39:8 (731.345 - AL 3/8...

    MB 917 vs 1120/1124?

Yes, they are supposedly very well insulated, full aluminium construction. They are designed to be shipped as containers for logistical purposes, so they are very strong indeed. I see a lot of people using these boxes on their builds including some "famous" trucks like the one Ulrich Dolde has...
