Um yeah, Patrols were only sold here from 1962-1969, total being 2616. That doesn't exactly warranet much parts support. Go to Colombia, Australia or any other of the dozens of countries they were sold and parts are just as easy and just as plentiful as any Land Cruiser.
If Patrols had more of...
That is a similar story to my last trip south and stop in Antigua. If you came down the CA1 it is a steep road, steeper going north. Your trucks look really heavy, mine was too. That takes it's toll on the brakes, especially in a truck with an automatic.
How was the border crossing, painless...
Here are some more pictures of the axles. Ignore the suspension set up.
I also plan to run the PTO winch, you can see the PTO box and shafts on the RHS of the picture. A flat belly skid plate like this will also be used on the Ute.
cheers
Here are some pictures and links....
The new (old & used) firewall/dash I have for the Ute. This is from a 1965 USA Patrol so it is LHD and allows me to convert the Ute from RHD to LHD. This will be the first body piece I work on.
Here you can see some rot in the kick vent area, very common...
I have a vintage 1980s ARB style bull bar. If it looks decent on the Ute I am thinking about customizing the mounting brackets so it will fit the Ute and then use it on the truck.
Last bit of info....I pulled the motor and the rear axle out of the Ute not to long ago. I swapped in a rear axle...
Another one!!
Welcome to the forum and very well made points. I would have to say I agree with what you post. It is posts like this that remind me of how good I have it, not to mention make me feel at least a little guilty for what I have. Even if it is much less then a lot of my fellow...
Not my buggy but I am driving it...
About as good as it gets in a Pinzgauer...
In my old Taco...
In my 84 FJ60 Cruiser with new SUA suspension....
In my 83 Patrol....
The Patrol never came in full time 4wd. I can't comment on the newest version of the Patrol though as I know nothing about it other then it is not really a Patrol! ;)
Yup I can wrap my head around that. The DRC happens to be one of the top 10 most dangerous countries in the world, or at the least the top 20 list.
Which is why I am in no hurry to go there and overland through the country. I am also not exactly intrested in doing it in a truck that I have to...
I think it is an outstanding idea! I would like to particapate, it would simply depend on available funds at the time for me. As far as actual time to do the trip, I would be able to do it during December.
RCV is what I would recommend....type RCV axle in google. Nothing off the shelf, they can custom make it no probs. You will never touch another CV again.
