Dang close to flawless. My only small issue so far was I got some feathering on the fronts. It might have been from running a bit too far at lower pressure. Might have been a bit slow on rotations. Might have been a 150K mile front suspension. I upped the pressure a bit and will try more often...
One quick note: When shopping for a recovery strap, make sure to check and see if the strap is Polyester or Nylon. A Nylon strap has a much softer 'hit' to it and is typically a better choice for a kinetic recovery. A polyester strap, while it still has some stretch, it has a much firmer less...
Tomato Potato.
There are tons of random laws on the books limiting vehicle modification. Every state in the USA has it's own random version on top of a ton of vague federal level regulations.
Most (I actually think all, honestly) of the existing legislation is flat out stupid. Someone has...
I didn't miss it, I just didn't beat around the bush for a full page about it.
I don't care what you do with your vehicle, and you shouldn't care about what I do with mine. That clear enough?
Many in this thread are proposing that legislation against vehicle mods would be a good thing.
Throwing on bigger tires isn't really a vehicle 'build'. They are very regulated in what they can change on the vehicle to support those larger tires.
They have to go through super long bureaucratic processes to do something like change to a heavier duty axle.
I don't have any issue doing...
Are Australians (not) modifying their vehicles a certain way because they are limited by their laws or because it really works 'better'? Seems to me like the regulations they have in place KEEP them from modifying their vehicles past a certain point ( for road vehicles), so they just make due...
Ha. :ROFLMAO: Just about every 'overland' vehicle in Northern America is over GVWR....by a lot.
The total payload capacity on a new jeep wrangler unlimited is right about 1000lbs.
Australia has an entire industry devoted to 'legally' increasing GVWR by having the vehicle modified by an...
I feel attacked. :ROFLMAO:
I'll keep my big dumb tires, thank you very much. Having the tires stick out helps protect the body when doing most difficult stuff off road. Larger tires also provide the added flotation needed for sand and snow when used at very low pressures. My vehicles still go...
Kinetic Rope for me these days. I like the softer feel on both vehicles. It also allows a much more mismatched vehicle weights. For most normal recoveries, like pulling someone out of a ditch, or providing a little help on the trail it works great. Doing any kind of distance towing is miserable...
I've been testing with it for a few months now. I think I am on version 3.5 of the foot. Overall, I really couldn't be happier with the concept. There are still little tweaks and mods to be made for other features, but overall it works great for doing lots of different things. I've been a...
This is what I have been experimenting with lately. I call it the "Tauler Jack".
25lbs, 25" collapsed, 15" stroke, 6" to 50" overall range.
It is built on an 8000-lb side crank trailer jack.
For me, this has been a HUGE improvement over a traditional farm jack setup when working 'around'...
A bit of gorilla tape goes a long ways towards improving bead retention on conventional wheels.
I even wrap the inner beads on my conventional clamp style bead-lock wheels.
2 wraps of Gorilla brand is a good starting point. 3 can get quite snug. 4 is usually almost impossible to get the bead to...
I've got an ARB dual in my flatty. It was expensive but has been great for about 9 years now.
I did a 12V Puma compressor in my #LX45 project. Tt was about half the price. It has been going strong for 3+ years now.
It isn't quite as fast as the ARB-Twin overall, but for the money it is a...
Totally agree.
People like what they like. Most people won't take the time ( or spend the money ) to try new things. I can understand that to a degree in a commercial setting, but I continue to see synthetic rigging becoming more and more in demand ( and even required ) for safety reasons. I...
I've never had a soft shackle freeze
I have had a steel shackle rust shut, and also bend the pin enough you couldn't get it back out of the mounting hole.
