Ghetto? really? Wow... you guys must all have amazing camping setups and huge bank accounts to fund them! Yeesh... someone comes up with an alternative to the bug $$ of a RTT and add a little extra space to a limited wheelbase vehicle and you bash him. Don't like it deployed then keep it closed...
I see what your saying and like the idea of the bed boxes. My biggest issue with them is its hard to find one of quality that actually fits like a glove and doesn't cost both legs and an arm. Plus it would really have to be removable yet able to be fully secured. I just thought with your skills...
Yeah... have to go with awkward...lol! If the Jeep were about a foot longer maybe it would visually fit better? Like the J8 or something... But for those of us with CJ8s/LJs I'd think just some boxes affixed to the bulkhead could be of help. Speakers are almost impossible to place back there and...
one more for the list...
Not sure which of your threads this would/should go under but I had another thought..Just something to add to your already long list of stuff... :)
I know some folks make the bulkhead that goes between the front and rear in a half cab configuration CJ or TJ. You can get...
I've been reading along here and while I am a huge supporter of diesel/conversions I have to say in this instance I may actually be on the fence. Why? I'm thrifty (ok...cheap) and maybe a little used to the spartan aspects of my jeeps. The thing that kinda confounds me (beyond Jeep/Feep not...
The XJ is an outstanding platform. The 4.0 is a near bullet proof motor good for well into 300k miles when maintained. The AW4 auto (guessing yours isn't the kinda rare manual) is a tough, reliable tranny as well. For day to day use the function very well and even bone stock the perform on...
broke...
I just spent a chunk of change to get the parts coming to fix mine. Hopefully they will arrive in Germany in about a month and I can start getting that beast on the road and trails again.
Zeppelin says...
Like Zeppelin said... Ramble on brotha! lol!
I understand and agree with what you mean. If going for what your shooting at then from scratch would save effort, and time is money sometimes. Building using existing jeep/parts is always a compromise and to get where you want takes...
Work it...
I'm headed off to scrape and clean my jeep stuff before the parts get here for my tranny swap. I'll try and organize my thoughts and get back to you. :)
Cool...
To bad there isn't some way to measure the stress applied to the latching mech.?. I'm interested to hear your after adventure report on how this woks out! Great work as usual sir!
Yea for updates! :)
Looking good! I like the foot pads, they keep with the original theme of using less wear prone (rubber) parts. And I can understand your desire for starting with a "fresh" tub. There is a line between upgrading our heeps that you crossed over. The new land is called...
Stabilizers...
JS... You'll want to add some stabilizers to the back of the trailer so it doesn't tip over/up when the drawer is pulled out or people are climbing in/out of the tent. :)
Drive by wire...
Maybe you should DX the mechanical steering and try and rig up a drive by wire system? hahaha! Loving the progress and can't wait to see where this goes!
