How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

Looking for a coil with similar ends from a different application and a lighter rate is a solid idea. It looks like I have 0.720" wire springs now. According to this chart ( yes, 2005-17 was the same I guess ) that is a 410lbs/in rate..... that is a

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

I definitely agree that the rear suspension is going to be a significant challenge. The Kelderman rear shackle replacement system is an interesting concept and worth considering. I do wonder how it will deal with cycling the full suspension travel during more aggressive off road driving. I'll...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

It is an interesting concept. I don't really want a full-time system however? It seem like the foam system would act like an overload, basically progressively increasing spring rate based on axle position. I guess if the mounts where adjustable and you could move them out of the way when the...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

good point on the slider, I don't want a squeaky, clunky, rattly suspension I went out of my way to find a bolt-in bushing style fox 2.0 resi for my 80 series chassis ( ended up being an overseas nissan patrol lift shock part number ) I love that the LX45 project isn't noisy.

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

4" of lift is way too much for me. I only need about a 1.5" coil The front coilover spring rate availability is a bonus. Carli does have a bolt in coilover tower. It looks like they are getting an 8" 2.5 coilover in there with a 2.5" lift height. I am a little surprised to see a single rate...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

A bypass shock can also be a good way to deal with low speed g-out type issues that are a side effect of good linear or shallow progressive valving. The downside is a traditional external bypass can make a lot of noise which I don't want. Air bumps can be good at progressive bottoming control...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

The Fox DSC does a really good job at adjusting both low and high speed compression valving. Generally, you should be adding compression valving as weight ( or spring rate ) increases. I'm not going to be doing off the shelf shocks, Accutune will be helping me with the valving. I agree full...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

Except all of Carli's Ford stuff is diesel weight based....and honestly biased to the longer heavier trucks in general. They are great at what they do, but it just seems like they have some holes in their offerings. Like......you can't run their air bags without running the 4.5" kit on a ford...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

I just don't want to give up the bed space for being a truck doing truck things. Not crazy in mods.....but probably a little on the crazy side for parts. I'm really considering something like a 3.0 (maybe internal bypass) with a DSC adjuster. I think for the varrying rear load requirements...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

yeah, I'm not interested in running heavier diesel rate coils on the gasser. I'd actually like to try something on the much lower side of spring rate honestly, especially with good shocks. I also don't want much lift in front. I think 1.5 up in front and 1.5 down on the rear suspension would be...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

I would say 'maybe' on a major shock relocation. I don't want to go to a bed cage or anything like that that would negatively effect the bed space. From what I can tell the rear of the truck can package a decent amount of shock travel in stock/leveled for. It looks like Carli is offering a 13"...

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

Nice! I'd love to hear a detailed review if you don't mind doing a brain dump on it. Is it a diesel? I've been surprised that there doesn't seem to be many coils built for gas versions ( my 07 is a V10 manual )

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

Neat project, but it looks like just an ARB/OME bolt on kit? I guess I am looking for something a lot 'more' than that. They are decent quality parts, but I would generally rate them below the performance of even a lower end 2.0 fox shock with stock valving.

How good can a full-size solid axle suspension be?

What is the best overall performing suspension on a full-size truck you have done? What would you do different? How good it be? I always find a good picture insperational, this one is of a nice clean Excursion equipped with some Carli Suspension getting some use. I would like to go through...

The Wrangler uses a newer generation/version of that engine. Some good detail on what the generation differences are here.

    Recovery thoughts, ideas, advice

I like to have both/all options available. A dynamic rope/strap works great up to a point. If they are sized wrong or you hook multiples together in series it can completely change how 'dynamic' things are. You can end up with a case of too much of a good thing. Adding in a normal static...

    Recovery thoughts, ideas, advice

Mostly agree, the stock tow points, especially the thread in version ( and some are left hand threads....who does that! ) are ok for a straight line helping pull. That honestly will go a LONG ways for most of the 'car' based recovery. When in doubt use more shovel.

    Recovery thoughts, ideas, advice

Adding good recovery points would be a place to start. Lots of Subaru's around here do the rally type parts that are painted red or whatever. Next I would suggest a core tool and an MV50 air compressor. Airing down the tires helps, even in a car. That has gotten me out of more bad weather...

Zero guarantee that the tow truck isn't going to cause the same damage, and they don't pay for it if they do. It is accepted risk. You MIGHT be able to file an insurance claim. I don't understand the not being prepared to take care of your self regardless of the vehicle .....or not helping other...

Sure, can't help everyone all the time, but I am surprised to see this many people in a mainly off-road forum about being prepared and equipped to deal with about anything.....saying they will just call for help? I don't get that part of things. Maybe I have been lucky enough to have good...
