Scuba Tank for On Board air... stupid qestion?

TDG regulations are a very good point. I don't think that they apply to CO2 here in Canada in the quantities that we're talking about. You may also want to check into whether or not those regulations apply to private vehicles that are not engaged in commerce. I know that in Canada, TDG marking...

    Front license plate and winch

Here's one idea. At least this way they'll need tools. http://www.toughstuffproducts.com/jeep/EZ_flip.html I can't offer any insight on how it works as we don't run front plates here in Alberta. :wings:

Quadra Drive II in Current Jeeps

Maybe faster, but not smarter. The computer is taking a guess at what you want to do with your vehicle, based on your control inputs, the current wheel speed, and it's programming. That code is written based on how a soccer mom wants her family truckster to handle. :smiley_drive: I have...

Quadra Drive II in Current Jeeps

For on-road use in poor traction conditions (snow/icy), the ELSD system is far superior to a conventional 4X4 with selectable lockers. The Jeep JK is available with a rear LSD and also with a Brake-Lock Differential system - it actuates either the right or left rear disk brake to deal with...

Perfect. That's exactly what I was hoping for. I just hope that Santa hooks me up :)

Bumper as an air tank - Would it work??

Agreed...but I bet that you probably bleed down your tank with a valve on the bottom when you're done with it, right? That will let most of that moisture out. That may or may not be viable on a bumper. I know that I want the bottom of my bumper to be both smooth and capable of withstanding some...

just did a week of cold weather camping

I was about to guess that, given that you live in Oromocto. I have some fond (and not-so-fond) memories of CFB Gagetown. The CF has learned a thing or two about operating in the winter - they've got good kit. Some of it is heavy and very low-tech...but it does work. I've been quite comfortable...

Scuba Tank for On Board air... stupid qestion?

I'll offer some basic facts here. A big part of what I do for a living involves providing compressed breathing air for people in dangerous environments, so I deal with cylinders of high pressure air constantly. In terms of space taken up, a SCUBA or SCBA tank will not compete with a CO2 tank...

Why not enhance rounder AT tires with snow chains and similar devices?

I've never used them, and never actually seen them used. I know that steel cable chains are generally only considered a viable choice for occasional use on light passenger cars, so I'd be hesitant to put plastic or rubber into a situation that's seen as too demanding for steel. Each "rung" of...

Neither am I :) I just know that they offer both version of CityNavigator, and warn that the NT version won't work on non-NT devices.

Bumper as an air tank - Would it work??

Just understand that when you compress air, water also goes with it. If you trap that moist air and leave it stagnant inside your bumper over the long term, you're going to have rust issues. Bleed your tank frequently and understand that you may have to replace it because of internal corrosion...

    12k synthetic line???

+1 on that. Engineer the failure points in your recovery system. I run 3/8" synthetic rope on a 9500 pound winch - although for my use, 5/16" would be fine. For a bigger winch like yours, 3/8" line would be the smart choice.

Why not enhance rounder AT tires with snow chains and similar devices?

They will indeed work in mud. I've used them on 1 ton trucks in snow, ice, and mud. They won't work miracles, but they will generally get you that little bit of extra bite that may get you where you need to be. The are a few problems though: #1. Ride. Unless the surface you're on is...

Pure genius. I'm glad to see that the use of vice grips, baling wire, and duct tape is not an art that has been completely lost. I'm still trying to talk my girlfriend into a Moab trip.

Hmmm....I wonder if I can use a larger MicroSD card in there? I'm not averse to spending the money for an 8GB. That should give me full coverage. If not, I'm okay with loading only the states that I will be in. That's what I do with the Canadian topos right now - I have Western Canada on the...

    Garmin CityNavigator maps/database on a GPSMap60CSX?

I've got a Garmin GPSMap 60CSX that has been doing a great job for me over the past 18 months of use in my Jeep. It's loaded with all of the topo maps for Western Canada, and it's been a huge help while wandering around the foothills. There are two areas that I would like to upgrade it's...

    distance needed between ham/stereo antennas?

Have you considered the roof? You'll probably get better performance out of the antenna if it's up there (much better RF ground), and you'll have plenty of separation. If you have a hood seam mount, you could also mount it further forward from the FM antenna.
