285/75R16 BFG AT's is all I would run on my truck, that or KM2s. I don't need an agressive tire though. The A/Ts have proven themself to me and done it very well, I won't use another tire now on my overland truck. I like the 285/75R16s because it is the biggest tire I can fit with 2.5" of lift...
First of all do you off-road the truck? If not you don't really need a swing out. Lots of reasons to move the tire to the bumper but the main one is for imporved ground clearance behind the rear axle.
Next, do you plan to fit an aux fuel tank? If so you have to move the tire and run a tire...
You are fine with the 7" rim unless you plan to run really low pressure.
You don't need 2 spare tires, yes I would have 5 matching though. Take a tire plug kit and you should be fine. Carry a compressor too or some way to fill your tires. Fix a flat is worthless, go with the right stuff not...
wish I could give you 1st hand experience but we don't have to do smog checks in Wyoming so I never had that done on mine.
Do you have the URD software that came with the 7th kit? When was the last time the truck was tuned? What octane fuel are you running? How are the Cats?
Sounds like you...
Stock tank is right about 18.5gals. I have never seen more than 250 miles out of a full tank, then again I am supercharged. I added an aux tank and can get 500+ miles out of 38 gallons. I have a hard time believing you are getting 400-500 miles out of a full tank of fuel. The only way I see that...
Not wanting to hijack your thread but....
So you did get an Aussie TLC! Did you import it? Did you bring it in on a 1yr temp import? And if so shippng costs were?
Feel free to pm me insted of replying here if that suits you better. :)
I do not know why these folks are not talked about more here on ExPo. These are the only people I know of who have driven the Darien Gap more than once! I know of other attemps at driving the Darien but none of those were a success. And I don't even know the last time it was pulled off in a...
Thanks for the reply & info. I would like to see some interior pics and engine bay pics. Also if possible a few shots of the frame and or undercarriage.
Congrats on the sale....I bet you will miss it though! I did the same thing with mine, bought it, enjoyed it, tossed money at it and then sold it for $20k.
I miss mine but there were some things about it I don't miss. They are fun trucks but easy to flop over, I put mine on it's side once...
How many miles on the engine? What is the tranny? What gear ratio in diffs? Any oil leaks? How is the knuckles? Interior clean? All gauges work? Rust in wheel wells only?
Thanks
My Icon has been in my truck since late 2008 and that was about 45k miles ago. No problems at all with it and it doesn't need to be rebuilt. So not sure what you are talking about.
Great stuff!!
I will never drive the Darien but it sure will be cool the day I get down there and get a picture of my truck next to the Darien Gap sign!
Oh and when I was in Casco Viejo in February....I was going to drive down this tiny little street but didn't know if it was a dead end or...
This is a solid very well thought out build. It is nice to see you wheel it too!! :ylsmoke:
Your truck is soooo clean on the top side. Have you considered POR15'ing the whole undercarriage. You have a lot of light surface rust on the chassis. POR15 would really clean that up, make it look nice...
It is worse than pulling teeth from a chicken, it is illegal and you risk much. There are loop hole sin the system though, if you are a NZ citizen and a USA citizen there may be a legal loop hole for you.
Any engine not common or sold in the USA will have to be imported. Sure you can find...
