    Outback as backroad camp vehicle?

Welcome. Like I said, we both really like the car (it's the only practical car that we own). Several years ago there were issue with the 4 banger and oil (burning oil I believe)....had a co-worker that had to buy a new engine at under 100K and Subaru would not help him, even with a lawyer. Scary...

    Outback as backroad camp vehicle?

I use a 2007 Jeep JK 2-door for my overlanding (car camping) needs and bought a 2016 3.6R Outback with the intention of replacing the Jeep. Though the Outback is a very comfortable rig, I have switched back to the Jeep. Here's why: Clearance, clearance, clearance. Though a stock JK and...

    4WD Van on Ebay

So, I'm guessing that the bed is long enough to fit a Harley in it?

2-Door JK JeepKitchen - AT Chaser - Globetrotter - National Luna build thread

Cool. We will have to figure out a way to put a real, accurate temp readout on them. Let me know how you like the new one. Mine is 20 or 30 years old. I wonder if the new ones are built the same? It would be nice to have a silver one that matches my chuck box (I'm anal like that). :)

Any experience with a Vmax battery?

I might just give GC batteries a whirl then. No big loads for me. Fridge & Propex...maybe an led light or two. My goal is to get setup for 4 to 5 days without having to worry about my battery system. I could idle the rig for an hour each day if needed, but would rather not. It's really...

Any experience with a Vmax battery?

Thanks sirs. These would be installed behind each front seat in a Jeep. I could seal them in cabinets and vent them somehow, but life would be much easier if I didn't have to do that. How often do you need to fool around with maintenance for GC batteries?

Any experience with a Vmax battery?

I have used that exact battery for two years. It's worked so far. Now that I'm thinking about increasing my ah I'm either going to get two more of them, or do what @dreadlocks says and buy two golf cart batteries. If I go with golf cart batteries....I assume they need to be vented to the...

Easter! It's a little setup compared to most camping rigs...but it's comfy! Finally got around to baking something with the Coleman oven and Partner Stove. It worked very well and I'm going to be doing a lot more baking at camp.

Well, it's going to make a pretty big difference but I have a LOT of crap bolted to my rack... at least 400 lbs. on my roof and wouldn't try to do anything more off-camber than the last 100 feet of a Forest Service road (to reach a camp site). If you are going to wheel your Jeep I'd recommend...

    Is my Jeep too heavy?

Easter weekend I got 17.8 MPG over 200 miles (actually calculated it by hand). The miles were split more or less evenly over 65 MPH highway and Forest Service roads. I have an '07 3.8/auto with 4.10s. The 3.8 is a gutless pig and I imagine the newer JKs with the 3.6s do better.

2-Door JK JeepKitchen - AT Chaser - Globetrotter - National Luna build thread

I've been following that thread. Lotsa good info. As for the CM detector, they want $50.00 plus shipping to calibrate it every 6 months. I haven't had it calibrated for two years. ? Last night I ordered a $13.00 CM detector with PPM readout and will test again with that. Could be that my...

    Is my Jeep too heavy?

I've been through all this with a two door JK. In fact, I took it all apart last fall and put it again together this spring. I had to move everything possible forward as much as possible, get E-rated tires, air shocks, a heavy rear anti-sway bar, and an AEV lift kit (but the lift kit probably...

Chairs for men of substantial dimensions?

I just bought a wide Kermit and took it out for Easter weekend. Good chair (I'm 6 foot, 250). Do order the oak version though. I bought the walnut version first and the bow under my legs snapped within 20 minutes of opening the box. The oak seems to be much more solid. And, their customer...

    Roof Top Tents and wind

RTTs are still tents. I have a Baroud Space and it is pretty taught when open. Now that I think about it, I've never been awakened in the night from wind noise in it. I will say that if the wind is blowing hard enough to rustle a ground tent it will probably rock a car. You notice this when you...

Has anyone gone from a drawer system back to a simpler way of storage in their vehicles?

Yes...I did just that. I have a "Jeep Kitchen" that I have kept in the Jeep for two years. The stove drawer and the fridge slide were fun to show off, but a pain in da butt to use. I canned it this year. Going back to a chuck box and stationary fridge. What I learned is that in my opinion...

I went out on Thursday night this week and it was fun, but there were a lot of new peeps at the Easter campout and I'm not really a "new peeps" type of guy...so I came home on Friday. The Propex worked great. My CM detector went crazy reporting 60 ppm and woke me up at 9AM though. Oddly enough...

    Coffee Makers?

For decades I did the "drive down town, wait in line, and pay five bucks for coffee thing" to get my very simple Iced Americano with a dab of cream (which is just watered-down coffee with ice and cream). Five bucks for a cup of coffee is ridiculous, but all I asked for was speed and consistency...
