Looking for input regarding a Lance 650 on a GMC Canyon Crew Cab Long Box

What does the Lance weigh? There is a FWC owner who is setting up his new Diesel Colorado, coming from a tacoma. He found that he needed to add a leaf spring and upgrade the front end shocks to get the ride quality he wanted. I think he said packed his FWC is a little over 1000lbs. Empty its...

Why don't i see any Thule or Yakima boxes on Overland rigs?

I ran a borrowed basket once. 5mpg hit at highway speeds. Noisy and my gear was exposed to lookyloos and weather. My box was a 2mpg hit at highway speeds, its quiet, keeps gear outa sight outa mind, dry and clean. A narrow basket beside the box might be a nice option for things like wood, chain...

    Advice on a land cruiser

My 93 LC stock leather, no running boards or locker was $52,000 msrp. The original owner gave me the window sticker.

    Project: Expedition Allroad

A good friend has one original owner custom ordered 6spd manual etc. He has rebuilt pretty much the entire car at this point. 180K new turbos to avoid failure and engine damage, New air ride system each shock was pretty much putting a body part in hock to get it either replaced or rebuilt etc...

    2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Build

Pushing 90,000 with our 2010 CVT 2.5 OB. I did have the dealer do a drain fill at 60K. Cheap insurance. So far the torque converters have been the point of failure on both the last year or two of the 5spd EAT and the last few years of the CVT's. Its like a clutch job only simpler for them to...

    Advice on a land cruiser

The I6 in the mountains is a dog also. 100 series for the rockies and long highway trips hands down. They amazing vehicles but today there are so many options out there with strong positives the prices today do not make them attractive.

17-20ft travel trailer as base camp?

We met a family that had a Livintite 17 bunk model this summer. It was small enough to back into a tent site which is key to finding available sites on the west coast. The tow rig was a Volvo wagon. They were on the road for a month. The setup seemed to be working pretty well. Our set up is a...

    Advice on a land cruiser

Our current truck rig is a late 06 Sequoia Limited. Which these days you can find really clean ones in your price range. Only weakness is lacking locker and odd sized rear end no after market for it. But its still pretty capable and a far nicer long haul rig. 17-18mpg with no roof gear is common.

    Advice on a land cruiser

I sold mine in 2011 with 153k on it for $7000 in mint shape. Having owned one. I would never pay anything over 4k for a 200+,000 mile old J80 Land cruiser. The 100 series engine is sooo much better, and its a far superior long haul rig, also has more modern crash standards.

    Advice on a land cruiser

2004 I bought mine from the original owner with 104,000. I drove it about 4000 mi a yr. Spent about $4000, on old car stuff, valve cover, front axle seals, all new brake lines and ABS harness during the 8yrs I owned it. Not a cheap machine to run. 12mpg averages, the maint stuff needs to be done...

    Advice on a land cruiser

My late 93 had the FZ and 4spd AT. The Head Gasket in that engine was typically blown by drivers thinking it was a 5+L V8, and / or not keeping the aging cooling system up to snuff. It wasnt a product of bad Head gasket install at the factory.

Cargo Enclosed Trailer Conversion--Ideas and Suggestions Needed

I think my top favorite idea Ive seen. Was a pull out slide from the rear which left enough floor width open for a dirt bike or other gear and doubled as a seating spot/bench when left retracted in the trailer. I think it kept weight more centered vs piled onto the front and all hitch weight. I...

    A Hawk in the Arctic

http://www.dehumidifierweb.com/eva-dry-e-333/ Get a three pack. Store them in a ziplock. Set one out for a few days in the camper, swap in another etc. Or if you have site power, use a compact room dehumidifer, they make a big difference.

Any small space with air breathers will have condensation issues. Unless you can use dehumidifier type tech it doesnt matter what camper you have.

Why don't i see any Thule or Yakima boxes on Overland rigs?

My 2003 Thule box is still going strong. Best car kit Ive spent money on. 31inches wide, 7ft long, and about 15 in high. The width enables me to put two bikes on 54in rails with it. Or a canoe on 66in rails with it. That and its not too massive to store when not used. Many of the jumbo boxes...

Mattress topper research, sam's club etc

Two pads side by side with the stock foam pad over it then the costco topper. Its like our own bed at home. Tad soft squishy for me but the wife loves it and I sleep all night with it. I think the stock pad with the rei pads under it would be ideal for me.

Mattress topper research, sam's club etc

Been running costco memory toppers for three yrs in the lifetime tent/trailer. Also have one on our regular bed at home for about 7yrs now same brand. No complaints. I will say this. The trick that made the trailer bed work was a 2inch REI extra wide /long self inflatable back packing mat. We...
