Custom Camper Build - f-350 vs 450/3500 vs 4500, GVRW, Gas

Is there much modification needed to run the 41" tires on either the 3500/5500 or the F550? Ward

    Ford F550 vs. Ram 5500

Is the Dodge 5500 as easy to fit 41" tires to as the F550? I understand with the F550 only some sheet metal cutting is required to install 41' tires. Is the Dodge the same? Ward

    Ford F550 vs. Ram 5500

As well, from what I have read, beginning with 2016 there will be no more Cummins available in the 650-750 line. Ward

    Ford F550 vs. Ram 5500

For me the reason not to step up to a F650 would be factory 4x4. Ward

    Ford F550 vs. Ram 5500

Just curious why the US military suppliers and tactical builders like Oshkosh and Lenco and most others seem to build on the F550 platform not the Dodge 5500 platform? Ward

Does the flex in the frame cause any concerns due to the fact that it is hard mounted to the frame and the cab? Ward

Anyone actually install mini split heat pump on camper?

What about a small 110V window air conditioner mounted in a vented box? Is this not what the Earthroamers have? Ward

    Ford E450 4x4 build revival

Thanks Racer. I am just about the same size as your son so I will probably want to increase headroom almost a foot. I want to stay under about 11' 6" overall. Now that you have driven it a few times with the body on can I get some feedback? Does the body twist independent of the cab or is...

    Ford E450 4x4 build revival

Racer, what is the height on the inside from the wheel arches to the insulated ceiling? How much insulation do you have on the floor in the photos? Ward

    Ford E450 4x4 build revival

Will you be staying with the duals or have you thought of switching over to super singles? I am looking at doing a very similar camper but on an F550 chassis and would like to switch over to super singles. Is the kick over the cab for sleeping or just storage? Ward

    Ford E450 4x4 build revival

I am looking at building a similar box and have a question or two if I may? I am from Saskatoon and have enjoyed watching your build so far and am excited to see it's progress. XRACER144, being locate in Winnipeg I assume some winter "camping" in the truck is in order. 1) Are you planning...

    Post your Jeep Camping Pictures!

Camped between Banff National Park and Jasper National Park in Canada in an area called the Icefield's Parkway. Weather was beautiful. Campsite was backing a creek with a waterfall. In front was the Columbia Icefield's. Visit if you have the chance. Small campsite with no RV's allowed...

The fridge/freezer has been excellent so far. The freezer part is just big enough to put in frozen food for a weeks travel. The overall size is a little larger as we mentioned and does cause some interference but if I'm hungry enough it doesn't seem to slow me down at all! As for the blacked...

I thought of that as well but it appears the optional end hinges are on the outboard end so it would open up towards the interior. The other end has the wiring and controls on it so you can't just turn it around either. Ward

The part furthest inboard is a freezer and it goes down about 8 inches. The near compartment has two baskets inside and it fills the whole space to the bottom. It is a very nice unit and does a very good job. It is just the size is a bit larger than the other fridges I believe and thus the...

DK, that would be a great solution if it were not for the fact that the NL fridge/freezer has three hinges on the back and one of them lines up right with the gas shock. I removed the shock from the window end and moved it all around to check and the plastic hinge piece still makes contact. I...

TenaciousTJ, too bad we didn't hook up when we were in Seattle. You have a great looking rig as well and I love to check out other setups when we get a chance. If you are looking to sit in a campground and not visit anyone the Habitat is not for you. LOL. The one thing it does is attract a...
