yeah. They would have to be very thin (front to back) they might get in the way of the rear window panel storage....catch 22 kind of thing.
I need to check the press at work and see how wide the span is on it. Rough guess not big enough, but my memory could be off.
Maybe it is worth making a...
Thanks, yeah, it won't look bad plain.
My other 'functional' concern is that the rear panel is a pretty big spread of flat metal that might do that oil can bongy hollow noise thing. Some 'bumps' would likely help stiffen up the panel a lot. All this stuff will be concealed by the front wall of...
D side rear panel 99% done....
Overall it turned out well. I still have another 1/16 inch of trimming to do in a few places to tune the fit. That will come after I attach the passenger side panel permanently.
I am still on the fence about trying to form some 'bumps' in the panel. It is 16...
Don't power out the winch for long distances, that will solve the issue as long as the brake is operating correctly.
5-10 feet is fine.
Do use a small piece of webbing to do this....
That will help you keep the right amount of line on the drum to prevent over stressing the end termination...
Great use of a cleco :)
Do you have the part number for the GM pump to AN fitting?
Also, what did you do to convert the FJ60 box to AN?
Thanks. Keep up the good work. I like this new style of thread with more details and updates. I know it's an added level of work...
Some really neat stuff in this thread too. I'm digging another build with an LT230.
If you need deeper gearing in the LT230, you can always swap in the 1.4 high range from a Defender.
Good to see you are making it through your cut and turn...
For the tie rod clearance. What if you made a solid tie rod, stuck one of those double adjusters on one side, and then milled a flat in the rod right where you needed the clearance under the diff?
If the material used for the rod was...
One corner 'done'
I was able to trim and fit the corner panel last night to the final fit. Overall for a garage made panel I am pretty happy. I took my time and trimmed slowly. I had to fit each corner around different tubes, flanges, body mounts, and welds. Trimming down the front to match...
Yup, I hear that. Now just about anyone can dabble. What I can't afford I make up, or reverse engineer, as I go.
I just wish I had more space for tools! I am going to have to break down and build a shop some day soon.
....and then I made a corner panel
Well, I am actually very surprised that worked as well as it did.
This is the basic door to C-pillar cab corner panel I made. The 1st step was cutting be blank. That was pretty easy. Then I had to form a flange on two sides. That took a decent amount of...
Sure, no problem. I think subconsciously I seek out projects that let me acquire new tools....
I got most of the stand for the shrinker done last night.
Excuse the mess, I was in fab-rnado mode last night. I need to clean up tonight and stick some legs on the stand. Then I will be ready to...
I am pretty much in experimentation phase....
A few things going on...
The rear floor panel is drilled and bolted in place so it doesn't move around anymore. It is not welded though. I may pull it out again for a few things...
I bent up a double flange test part that was left over when I...
It seems like it would be pretty easy to make a little adapter that could bolt onto the stock jack ring/hole to convert to a normal hex drive and/or square drive.
That is basically what I did on mine, but I just welded it.
Making a bolt on unit doesn't look impossible, but I suspect all the...
Not much this weekend, but at least something! ( I got roped into helping some friends and honey-do stuff )
The C-pillar that splits the rear window is now welded in the tub. I TIG'd on the foot and MIG welded the rest. This was basically designed to provide some additional strength to the...
I generally use a variable speed jig saw with a Bosch metal cutting blade for most profile cutting. For holes I use a small Harbor Freight bench top 12 speed drill press. For big holes, like for where the tube goes in my last bracket, I use Blair Holcutter's. They are basically a good quality...
Experiment time!
I think I have a way to make a satisfactory flange bend for the rear cabin panels. This is basically a very easy way to make a tight bend in sheetmetal. This is 16 gauge cold roll and it moved like butter. I knew I needed a sharper inside radius so I dug through the scrap...
Back to making brackets for a little bit....
This is the C-pillar 5th body mount that will be on the upright that splits the rear window. It is the same size bushing as all the other body mounts so they can share a common part. This body mount will tie into some of the structure that will be...
