    Factory Jack Replacements

I can make a bolt on adapter if you guys are interested. Not a big deal. Honestly it would probably be better for the jack without the welding heat.

    Blender, My LX450/FZJ80 + FJ45esk + GM + Land Rover crazy concoction

Just a little bit last night... The rear floor panel is just about done I think. I am still on the fence about trying to press in some 'bumps' that would match the OEM front floor section. I might have to try a test piece tonight and see how it will effect the panel. I would hate to ruin that...

Thank you...but again....just a guy in his garage with mostly harbor freight tools ( thought I have a growing collection). I hope that I inspire some people to try and build things. I really wish people would try building more things. My fear is that a lot of good ideas are not utilized because...

    Factory Jack Replacements

I don't know about all that, but thanks. What do you mean stripped the extensions? The little hook part things? I just welded that cut off spark plug socket on mine. Then I can use anything I want to turn it just about....including a small battery impact or cordless drill. I'll get a...

Thank you very much. Just a reminder to everyone out there. I am just a guy doing this in his garage with mostly lower end tools. It is my opinion that anyone can do this kind of stuff and I encourage it....

    Factory Jack Replacements

Shoot, I love the factory mechanical Toyota bottle jacks. They are great because of the range and because they will work in any position. I have had one in my flat fender for years now. The only thing that really annoyed me about them was the 'hook' style crank. I ended up modifying mine by...

Still working on the rear floor panel.... Side B (D?) went the same as side one. I was able to use the same hammer form for the opposite side, just bending in the opposite direction. This gave me a fresh corner also which gave a very similar bend to the 1st, without having it be any softer...

Time to hit sheetmetal with a hammer a few thousand times... I need to make the rear floor panels. These panels need to have a flange on the outside where they will join to the rear cabin panels. I elected to make an MDF hammer form for these panels. They needed a 5.25" corner radius to match...

I finally got to sit in it! The last few days of work consisted of getting the cage welded into place in the body so that I could remove all the temporary bracing finally! All in all it went pretty smooth, welding to old sheetmetal generally still sucks no matter how well you clean things...

Back to making brackets again....and welding..... I was able to put the A-pillar uprights back in, snugged the bolts back up, and started welding the plates to the floor. This cage is designed to be an integral part of the truck and body. Welding to the old floor sheetmetal was fun. I also...

Small bit of win tonight... The A-pillar upright, once tack welded to the floor plate, and with the windshield bar tacked in place actually popped out of place! I didn't have to pull the halo off the windshield or anything! Win. I had imagined that it might be possible. but once I had...

Just a little bit tonight.... I was able to get the A-pillar uprights trimmed to fit the windshield spreader bar along with getting the spreader tacked into place tonight. It took a bit of in and out with all the different parts, but it worked out in the end. This is how the offset...

Weekend update, 'who's dumb idea was this'..... This is where I ended up after a few more days of playing with tube. One of my pet peeves with cages is that there is typically a lot of wasted space, specifically over the top of the spreaders. I am trying to combine a lot of different features...

Small victories.... The drivers side is pretty much like the other, but there are a few small differences. For some reason Toyota thought extended a rib on the floor right into where I needed to put the A-pillar floor pad. On the passenger side there is no rib in this location. I wanted the...

Again, I agree that on the 2.5 you are likely better off just using adjustable arms BUT this will change if lift height where to increase. Bad handling characteristics and some funky caster/pinion movement can happen as the lift continues to increase. I just want people to be aware that there is...

FJ60 LS Swap - From Oil Burner to Gas V8 - Stoffregen Motorsports

I hear ya. I try and document as much as I can with my builds, but it does add another layer of work. I honestly use my phone for most of the pictures, it is good enough. I just leave it sitting on the tool box. With a case and screen protector I don't worry about how clean my hands are that much.

Sweet. I love your work, I would love to see some more 'how' you do things vs just the cool finished result.

One part at a time.... I was able to get the A-pillar tube bent up and fitted to the body and existing structure. It took a little time and patience to get the tube joint like I wanted. This tube 'falls off' the inside of the horizontal door bar of the halo by about 1/2". This isn't really...

I would agree that with the short lift that the clearance is nice, but arms don't do all the same things as brackets. The brackets can make geometry changes ( Roll slope, Anti-Dive/Anti-lift, pinion angle change, caster change, etc) while adjustable control arms only allow you to change things...

I would disagree. While an adjustable arm can help dial in pinion angle, center the axle, and maybe help with caster to some degree, they do not make up for bad geometry. With a 2" lift the geometry change is minimal. That is probably why you are not seeing a huge change, but eventually ( as...
