Small single axle trailers are a bugger to back up with a big truck regardless of tongue length. They are hard to see and sensitive to small steering inputs.
I have found that a front hitch is a handy addition. It's sometimes easier to "push" the trailer into place since you're looking...
This simple economic law is definitely a root cause. The market is full of high priced junk because consumers are obviously willing to buy said junk. Easy lending terms on RVs sure don't help as it acts as an inflationary force (the standard situation of too many dollars chasing too few goods)...
I recently checked out a couple of Whitewater Retro trailers at a local RV show. The retro styling is cool and all, but not so much of the "fine Amish Craftsmanship" as claimed. The overall fit and finish was just terrible on the units I looked at. On the outside, every place where they...
I believe towing any travel trailer behind a CRV would not be very fun, even a 13' Scamp or Casita. A teardrop or pop up might be better suited to the tow rig you are planning.
That being said if you are looking for a cheap and light small trailer base to build on, Carry-On trailers might have...
So at the risk of being a wise-guy; NATO cans don't need a nifty aftermarket flange added on, maybe just a new gasket every few decades.
It pains me to admit it, but the NATO military gas cans are just flat out superior to the American versions either old school metal or modern plastic.
You can usually find NATO cans in the sub $40 range from internet military surplus sellers. They have many different spouts and mounts available, don't leak or glug and are easy to handle. I have two vintage British cans (1952, 1989) as well as a more modern ValPro. All top notch pieces of kit.
Sure, it's better to cover all bases before swapping parts.
I see that you do a lot of trips up through the Great White North. I believe that road surfaces in areas that receive significant snow and ice are paved with quite a bit more crown for better runoff. Given you are wearing the inside...
There is an alignment shop where I live that can straighten out trailer axles. They are well known for doing alignments on all types of trailers; people even come from neighboring states to have them solve tire wear problems.
Perhaps there is a shop in your area that is similar?
Teardrops are pretty basic really and therefore a good candidate to ruggedize in my opinion. I think the trouble areas would be galley cabinets coming loose and possibly the hatch or doors not sealing up due to chassis twist. Both of those should be easy to prevent/resolve with some simple...
I am using some universal shorty street rod front shocks but the dimensions are same as Monroe 555003 (good catch); I wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same factory. My springs are well loved CJ7 6 leaf rears.
Working on this right now for my trailer. Here are the dimensions of the shocks I am using:
compressed - 9.625
recommended static - 12.5
extended 14.75
Those measurements favor up travel a little bit; 56% to 44%. If I had to sacrifice one, it would be down travel. Since trailers pivot on...
Many home builders successfully use plywood construction for light weight teardrop trailers. I believe the common method is 3/4" floor and sides with 1x2 stringers and thinner material for the roof skin. Metal construction is durable and can be very sturdy and light weight if done properly. I...
Highly underrated solution in my opinion.
I use 7 gallon aquatainers in milk crates, but the 4 gallon jugs allow for stacking. As stated, the jug is protected by the crate and then you can flip the crate over and use as a stand for the jug. The crates are easy to lash down and very sturdy...
I 100% concur with you on the skinny tires; they really look right on this kind of trailer.
Interesting color choice - I like that's it's different from the usual black, tan or tow rig matched.
Nice little trailer.
There is a reason why the Harbor Freight tongue boxes are popular, they are a good value for the money. The HF box is plenty sturdy enough to discourage the casual scumbag of opportunity. If a thief is determined enough, they are going to get into anything. Heck, sometimes I think making...
I run BFG Commercial T/A Traction tires in size 215/85R16 on my vintage pickup. The original wheels have been powder coated and aside from needing larger valve stems for the inner tube holes, work great. They have the look of an old school tall/skinny bias mud tire but are modern and easily...
