The MAF issue and the Lean Left Bank issue are most likely two separate issues. If your VAF sensor was faulty previous to when you tried to remove it and clean it, it would have affected both engine banks equally. The fact that only your Left Bank was running lean means you had an issue only...
Here's a handful of Mitsu pics we snapped at the event. Got to hang out a bit with William from Florida (Maroon Gen 3) and Hurricane Bane Charly (White Gen 2.5). My wife also talked for a while with Emily Turner, co-driver of the Robinson Fuso (though we didn't get a picture of their new cactus...
Regarding this "test", the reason this worked wasn't necessarily because the VAF was malfunctioning. When the PCM detects a malfunction in the sensor (aka disconnecting it) it reverts to a fail-safe mode: "uses the throttle position sensor signal and engine speed signal (crankshaft position...
Testing the Volume Air Flow Sensor
I guess since I started this mess of a thread I'd better chime in with something semi-profitable after dealing with these issues for the last two years. Here goes...
Regarding the Volume Airflow Sensor (Mitsu's name for the MAF):
First, it may or may not...
Be careful to read the label on whatever MAF Cleaner you are using...
For some reason not specified on the label our Karmen Vortex style MAFs do not respond well to chemical cleaners. I have no idea why, but it's written there in #10 in case you missed it.
Question regarding replacing the carrier output seals since both of mine are slightly weaping: is there any special steps or things to consider before simply removing the driveshaft and popping in another one? On my Cherokee there is a crush sleeve inside the pinion assembly that is "supposed to...
I second mitsubishipartswarehouse.com. That's who I order my parts from. Irma delayed my most recent order (since they're in FL), but they had it out the door two days later, mere hours after they had restored power to the dealership.
Love the "EVOZERO" plate on the GVR4, and that 7th gen is gorgeous.
I saw a good one for sale near me recently. I sent it to my wife with an "early birthday present idea" tag. She politely reminded me that our driveway currently has more "project" cars than running cars...plus I've spent all...
Any Mitsu people planning to attend the Overland Expo East in North Carolina at the end of the month?
I know Snare (Charly) will be there teaching...at least if hurricanes stop hitting the U.S., and I'll be there with the wife and kids. It'd be nice to meet a few east coast folks.
That's great man. Glad to hear it.
I think the tabs breaking on the Air Filter box is a common thing. Both of mine are broken, and all the air boxes in the junkyard that I have seen are broken too. Matter of fact, almost everything plastic under my hood is broken. Must have been a bad year for...
I happened to see this recently. It's made by the 3000GT enthusiasts, but the description says it will also work on '89 and up 3.0L engines also.

Sorry if you already knew everything I said in that last post, haha. I am an idiot and assume most everybody else is too. You probably know more about cars and have way more access to tools than me (just watched some of your videos). Consider that last post me just talking to myself. Everything...
Excuse the long post (I've been on an idle-related issue for a very long time now and have tried to learn how modern cars in general and my Monty in particular works along the way...full disclosure I am NO expert, just a shade-tree guy like you and most everybody else here).
Here's a list of...
On your spare tire pictures...you can see what looks like small holes in the outer lugs on the treads. It may just be that they look like holes in the pictures, but are actually something else. Just curious.
The roof rack looks great so far...just be careful welding all that galvanized steel (galvanizing poisoning). Beware the greenish-yellow ghosts.
Question regarding the Grabbers...what are the holes in the outer lugs for?
Here's the FSM's suggestions for the p0401 code:
> Dirty EGR valve or EGR passage
> EGR valve (stepper motor) has failed
> Open or shorted EGR valve circuit or loose connector
> MDP sensor failed
In section 17 of the FSM regarding the Emissions Control System it says that rough idle may be...
