    Arctic Environmental / Sponsorship Discussion

This is a truly interesting thread. Ignoring perceived attacks, bad timing and other attention diversions. One has to admit that there is a certain amount of irony in having EM as a sponsor on an arctic expedition with one of the expedition's functions being to promote the arctic...

    Video: Global Warming Swindle

There is a world of difference getting scientific information from the scientific literature and mainstream media. One of the biggest shortcomings in science is in the accurate dissemination of information. I rarely see or read anything on science related subjects that don't have mistakes, are...

    GPSy for OSX!

Yeah, it was for real-time presentation of location on the lap-top. In the end I went with the better support (MacGPSPro) and have been very happy, more than happy really. However, competition helps drive innovation and for that I am very happy for the GPSy. The more Mac solutions that are...

    GPSy for OSX!

This is very good news. I however will not try it. Years ago I purchased the software. I purchased it because I was told it could do real time. It could not. I was informed that I would be informed when it was fixed. I asked for a refund and never heard from them again. Live and learn.

    GPS in foreign countries

Where in China? Different areas have different rules. Be prepared for all sorts of conflicting rules and what not. I have always had a hard time getting straight answers there on even the lamest of things. There is no SA in China. I routinely can get equal accuracy in NA and Asia. As for...

    Closed/Impassable Road Interactive Database?

I feel your pain, however this is the only way to find out. I will say that I avoid the office staff if I can and try to make contact with actual patrol rangers/personnel, which is not always very easy. It has been my experience that they are much better sources of information, road...

Coke Ovens: Request from the land owner

Scott, could you forward this email to the CSC site on Mud? We are in the process of creating a "trail info" sticky. If someone could supply some UTM/state plane coordinates I can try and provide a better idea of the property lines. Ross

Novice GPS question re: Lowrance & MacGPS Pro

If you have questions about the Lowrance unit and MacGPS Pro, contact MacGPS Pro. Don't just go by their list of compatible units, sometimes one can slip by. For a long time MacGPS Pro was only compatible with Garmin units. They have added Magellen and some others, I just can't recall. I...

    Old-fashioned mounted compass?

I don't know about a compass made for a vehicle, but any ferrous metal near the compass will effect the precision of my bruntons by has much as thirty degrees. A pen with metal can visable deflect it. I guess if all you are after is N-S-E-W kind of stuff I guess they are ok. Ross

These water carriers are GARBAGE. DO NOT BUY.

X2 I use these containers extensively. My department also uses them for student field trips. I have my current batch of 3 for about 100 days of field work over the last two years with only one problem, it is hard to get the spigot pointed down. That has been my only gripe. Ross

    2 meter input

Hey Ed, lets do this together, kinda be license buddies. I was all geared up to take the test, but life got in they way. Maybe with the two of us we can encourage/shame each other into following through. Ross

    Blitz Metal Can Replacement Gasket

In my search for a new gasket, I have noticed alot of complaints about Blitz. I will say the can was free and will gladly replace it. I will need a second can and it will be a Sceptor. In the meantime I am trying to see if I can make use of this and not look a gift horse in the mouth, well at...

    On The Road w/ KC ~ August 6 - ?

Congrats on the Shiprock photos. I used to live in Farmington and the air quality in that area used to be so bad, so often that it was actually rare to have such a clear sky. Ross

    Blitz Metal Can Replacement Gasket

I was given a never used Blitz Metal Gas Can. Other than dusty it is in excellent shape. However, the gasket is cracked and weathered. I have found this gasket online for $0.95. I would rather not pay 9 times that in shipping. Does anyone have an idea where I might find one in S. AZ or...

    Purpose of a blacked-out hood?

I agree completely that a dark color will absorb more heat/light/energy/etc. I think vagaries come to play in does the hotter roof/hood conduct heat to the interior/engine compartment and if so is it significant to warrant a different color option. I got to thinking about these conflicting...
