Thinking for the day....
Rear Floor. One of the bonuses about going with an Aqualu tub is that I can change some things in the tub that would be a TOTAL pain in the rear to change on an OEM tub. One of the things that I have been thinking about changing is the width of the rear floor. The stock...
Thank you, it is great to see a picture to get an idea of scale. That sleeping platform makes me want to take a nap!
I taped off an area on the floor that was similar in dimensions. I think that will be plenty of area for me. I am not looking at sleeping on the floor but rather sleeping up on...
I could do a CJ8 tub with the rear axle moved back but I think that will be a little long. With the non-tj dash and fold flat seat I think the LJ will be ok. I don't need to sleep in it every night, but having the ability to crash would be nice.
Sounds pretty good. Do you have any pictures you could post?
a 74" long sleeping platform sounds pretty good to me in the stock LJ. I imagine without the passenger seat and stock dash in the way you could probably get at least 6" more? 30" wide with the drivers seat still in place sounds great...
yeah, those are neat, but EXPENSIVE! I looked at going that way when I did my Willys rebuild. I just ended up designing and building my own frame instead for about 1/5 the cost.
I totally dig that truck.......but my Dodge is basically the same thing with a different body. It is just too big.
I am looking for something smaller. I want the body JUST big enough to sleep in. Sleeping just one person is going to be fine most of the time, If I have to sleep two she really...
Some more thinking on the interior stuff.....
This is what I was thinking for seats. These are Liberty seats. Does anyone have an opinion on them? Comfy?
With the passenger seat folding flat like that I think the sleeping platform can go over the flat back of the seat to the dash. There...
I'm starting to do some layout work for the frame....
Can someone with a stock suspension LJ/TJ measure from the top of the tub to the rear axle centerline? Just need a rough tape measure-ment :) Thanks.
I am trying to figure out what height I want to make the frame. I think I might be able...
Lots of neat stuff there, thanks for the links.
A pair of those manual valves with a dual needle gauge would be perfect for what I have in mind. I think there also needs to be a check valve back to the source....
I looked at that pretty long the year it came out. It is a neat idea but not really my style. Having driven some cab forward stuff in my fire engine days I probably wouldn't go that way. It honestly makes some people sick to ride in since it is so different from a normal car.
The bed in that...
While the idea is really cool, for what I want this vehicle to do it is just too much weight and bulk in the rear of the chassis.
I have a few ideas that I have been kicking around for some micro-camper stuff inside a regular LJ cabin space. The number one thing I need is a space to sleep...
As a guy who has read your dodge and willys thread, i'm very excited to see where this goes. You're building one of my dream vehicles.....
Thank you. I think it should be pretty neat in the end. I wish I could just build full time and not have to worry about work and all that stuff. This...
Yup, cut that crossmember out and you can shift the fuel tank back to the TJ position with a little work on the front mount.
For me the magic wheelbase seems to be about the 110 range. The LJ needs a little more wheelbase. I would probably split the difference and go about 2" in the front to...
Just to keep everyone's brain working....
What about air bags for primary rear suspension?
I am thinking that this vehicle will be changing the load on the rear suspension a lot depending on its mission. I can see running super light and stripped down for crazy hard stuff and around town most...
One a TJ with High Line front fenders you can run 37" with no lift and 40"s with a 2" lift. Rear wheel tubs most likely wouldn't need any mods except some trimming to the fender opening.
True, but it also depends on how much uptravel you want from ride height...
The highline front fenders are...
Alright so I have read the whole thread and I have come to a simple conclusion on it after seeing lots of great ideas in this thread. Build it yourself. You have probably said that 5-10 times about spending less money building a frame, body and all that yourself instead of buying a donor vehicle...
1stDeuce, thank you for the great insight. Hearing from someone that has been there done that helps alot.
Hmm... I haven't read the ENTIRE thread, but I skimmed some. I wanted something similar to what you want... Smallish like a TJ/YJ/XJ but longer so I could sleep in it or haul stuff...
Just to throw something else out.. have you seen the Brute being built on a JKU frame?
Maybe you could put your custom tub on a JKU frame?
I don't really think the JK frame buys you that much really......you still have to spend money on it and you still probably have to mod if for the new body...
