I didn't think to take any build in process pics since I hadn't discovered this forum at the time, but here's a few more detailed shots of what I ended up with after more fine tuning for strength and usability.
The carrier is about 12 inches too narrow to handle the bikes wheel base so used a...
These pics are showing version 1 and what I ended up with on my old rig.. more detailed pics coming soon
And yes the bike is just far away enough to access the camper while loaded on the carrier
Just wanted to share my relatively cheap/simple solution to having a way to carry my enduro bike on the back of my camper rig.
I wanted to solve many issues I've experienced with hauling a bike with my rig such as:
*I fricken HATE dealing with a trailer! Slow speed limit, Slow lane, Storing a...
Looks really amazing, great design and execution! Wish I had half the fab skills you do. Looks like your'e getting some good use out of it too.
Looking forward to the next phase!
I also just made the forward cab over wall removable and posted the process here>> http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/144369-Alaskan-Camper-removable-front-wall-over-cab-finally-becomes-reality!?p=1867506#post1867506
New shoes for the beast!
Got some BFG AT/KO installed last week, while I was at it I had the front leveling leaf removed as the front was waay to stiff. I also had all leaf bushings replaced and a fresh alignment done. Tires are 285 75/16 E
Rides very nice now!
Thanks John, it was really easy and only took about an hour. Its a good idea to offset the inner hinges a bit to make it easier to line up the pins when re-installing the wall.
I think I'll do something similar to the mexi curtains for the bug screen. I used clear adhesive hooks as an...
I originally planned on doing all 3 walls with these hinges but for now I'm trying out just the front wall. As an added bonus leaving the side walls intact gives you an excellent place to put the removable front wall!
Now to add in a removable mosquito net and I'll be set!
Anyways after much head scratching and a bit of research I learned of 2 piece hinges. They are a simple and inexpensive hinge that has a male and female counter part. They are hard to find in any brick and mortar places though at least near me so I found em online.
Ever since I got my Alaskan myself and my other half have always wished for a way to use the bed in conjunction with having the open air you get just before folding up the walls that open the bed area. If you have or have seen an Alaskan you know what I'm talking about! Maybe somebody has done...
I built a simple wood platform using pressure treated 2x4's and plywood. I wanted to raise the camper about 3 inches over my cab and also make sure the camper never sat in standing water that can get into the bed of the truck. I coated the bed in Hurculiner and did another coat on top of the...
Yeah the previous owner installed a DP tuner, did a CAT delete, opened the exhaust and did a K&N. Truck has great power, MUCH more than my last 99 psd which was stock. My next short trip will be Bowman lake in the Tahoe wilderness, dual sport moto to Downieville from there. Next longer trip will...
Howdy!
I've been lurking around here for a little while and finally decided to stick my head above the sand and say hi. I've seen some great rigs(and stories) here but not a whole lot of Alaskan's which is what I've somewhat recently acquired, so far I'm loving it, and really enjoying all the...
