My 4x4 Red Cross ERV Build and Adventures

Tank is back in, new sway bar and Fox shocks installed and I've put a little over 100 miles on it so far. I really love how it drives. Still need to pull the trans and install the t-case but I wanted to get some test miles on it before it gets too cold up here and take the winter to finish...

My 4x4 Red Cross ERV Build and Adventures

While I have the fuel tank out I figured I'd make a few mods so I never have to deal with clogged (in-tank) filters again and redirect the return line so it shoots the diesel outside the baffled pickup area. The theory with shooting the return fuel outside the baffle is that it will reduce the...

Love the Sky Offroad brackets. Worst job ever with removing the fuel tank and removing the stock brackets but the Sky Brackets bolted right on the the van frame and worked perfectly. I think I might need 1-2" lift blocks to match the front end but we'll see after I drive it a bit and things...

My 4x4 Red Cross ERV Build and Adventures

Here it is with with no lift in the rear. It's about 4" low in but I might leave it and put some miles on it to see if the front settles and/or to see if I like the front coils and readdress it a little later. I'm picking up a transfer case tomorrow so now I have to decide if I want to tackle...

My 4x4 Red Cross ERV Build and Adventures

First little test drive out of the way. Worked as well as can be expected without having shocks... pretty bouncy. I had to turn it around in my driveway to start working on the back end so I figured I'd take it around the block. People looked at me weird for some reason ?. The plan for the...

Make sure to check if the Dodge wheel center is 125mm so it'll fit on the Ford hub. Even if the lug pattern is the same, these are hub centric so the wheel center has to be the same too.

No, stock on the van is 16" but 17" are the stock size on the F350 and are needed to clear the bigger brakes. The bolt pattern is different too so I'll need to used adapters in the rear..... hoping the tires don't stick out too far.

Picked up tires yesterday :D. All 6 will be 255/80 R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I had some 2.5" lift (I think) F350 coils laying around so I threw those in as a starting point to figure out what will work. I think the height looks pretty good but if I want to use them I'll need to modify the...

I've been busy working on the brackets to mount the parallel 4 link 4x4 setup. The 4 link bars are from Skyjacker but I had to make the rest. I should have taken more pics but hopefully you get the idea.... I found this rec tubing scrap at my local steel yard for the 4 link brackets...

That's another reason I'm making my own setup. I can place the axle where I want and I'll be using adjustable 4 link bars, instead of the stock radius arms, so I'll be able to fine tune the caster and wheel placement. Death wobble seems to come up a lot when talking about coil springs but I'd...

My 4x4 Red Cross ERV Build and Adventures

So this is happening.... I looked into a few available 4x4 conversion kits but decided to make my own based on the stock F350 coil spring setup. The main advantages, I see, to the coil setup are the ability to get a newer front axle (2013-2016) with bigger brakes and generally lower miles than...

Welcome to MN. Plenty of "mountain" biking around but not quite as much for the dirt bike. Gotta go north for that. Lots of good trail riding up there. I'm putting both on hold for a bit after breaking my hand this spring down in Bentonville. Finally able to work on campers again so that'll...

More wandering.... This time MN, SD, WY, ID, MT, ND. I'm really liking the iOverlander app for finding free campsites. Found some great ones on this trip. The ERV did pretty good but I did have a few breakdowns and I have to track down a squeak that's somewhere in the back. I think it's the...

    Home Depot Flatbed Camper Build...

FINALLY!! My hand is better so I can get back to work. I was able to go on some camping/road trips in my ERV which was nice but I sure did miss being in the shop building stuff. Continuing on with closing in the back. I added some extra support for the tire mount and the 4 holes will be for the...

Regular truck vs Chassis Cab Frame

I found that the rear leaf springs are different on my 2008 F350 cab and chassis. Not sure about other years but it's worth checking if you want to add aftermarket lift springs.

WHO HAS MADE THEIR OWN PANELS?

I used Foamular 250 and a small v groove trowel (1/8" grooves I think). The v groove should help eliminate big air pockets but I think I'd experiment without it next time to see if I could get a thinner layer of adhesive to save some weight... and adhesive I guess. I used the aluminum camper...

WHO HAS MADE THEIR OWN PANELS?

I made sandwich panels similar to theirs for my flatbed camper. I used PL Premium and yes I also found you need to mist with water to get it to cure thoroughly. I used 5' wide aluminum and aluminum composite because that's as wide as I needed for a pop up but if I needed wider seamless panels...

SpecE450 - Red Cross ERV turned Racecar Tow Rig

I turned mine into a storage area but I had to fill and seal up the gap. I like the storage area in mine but the A/C idea is great and I may have done it if I had thought of it.
