Just wanted to report how the snorkel performed on the highway at an average speed of 70mph in the rain.
It was raining pretty consistently on a recent road trip from the Glamis Dunes in SoCal back to the SF Bay Area. At some point I was even thinking pulling over and turning the snorkel...
I did one as well.
Check it out here.
You mentioned you were a college student on a budget. The Ebay snorkel I used was $70 shipped. Much cheaper than a real Safari Snorkel at $400.
After going through both write ups, I'm sure you will come up with an installation that is even better...
Good luck on the upcoming mods as well as your upcoming Mojave Road run. I'll be planning on doing it soon as well and I'll be looking forward to any trip reports, pics, as well as any suggestions as we are both running full size rigs.
Cheers!
AA1PR, I am looking at front winch mounting options an was wondering how you mounted yours. I seem to recall you did a Curtis front hitch and flipped the mount upside down so that it would be higher? Thanks for any insight.
Cheers!
I can't vouch for this method as I didn't do it myself so take it with a grain of salt. On one camping trip, my buddy and wife had a 1 y/o with them. They lined the area where the baby was going to sleep with strategically placed hand warmers and then put a comforter over it.
I didn't hear...
Thanks G!
I take it that the 2500's only come with 8 lug? The reason I ask is my Burb is a 3.73 and it looks like there was no option for it on the 1500 14 bolt. I guess it would be a good excuse to go to 4.10's in the front and then 35's!!!
After doing my recent GMT900 brake upgrade and snorkel I decided to make the quick 3 hour trip south from the SF Bay Area to Tumey Hills, CA. Happily a few friends decided to join me and we had a blast.
Tumey Hills is BLM land and is very hilly scrub land that cattle ranchers use seasonally...
14 bolt will probably be my next mod and then the 4L80E shortly after.
Just need to find a 14 bolt with 6 lugs and disc brakes. Does this unicorn exist?
What did you use to cut out the hole and did you do anything to prevent sparks? I've heard of guys spraying water underneath if using a cutoff wheel. Definitely something I want to do in the near future.
Noticed you got the Shield. Were there any other models in the running for you? I just started looking into tablets to run BCN and I'm a bit overwhelmed with what's out there. Like to spend between $100-150. I know the Shield costs $50 more and I just may consider it as well since I can game...
Sounds like an awesome project especially that you have the kids involved! Congrats on the new rig and good luck getting her sorted out. Looking forward to your progress!
I wish you the best of luck getting your Burban road worthy again. I know it must get frustrating dealing with a bunch of things that can add up quickly. I don't know how you guys deal with the rust on your vehicles up north. It would drive me mad.
I live near the coast and the moist air...
Must say that I'm really liking these new Colorado/Canyon's!! Great looking trucks! I think I like the diesels even more! For those that have them, any feedback?
