    Cause of battery drain

Just skimmed through this thread. People are offering great advice, the only thing I see missing is load testing the original batteries. This would have been my first step. Take the vehicle to a local auto parts store, with the batteries fully charged disconnect the battery bank and test each...

Odd Wiring Question - Jeep JKU and Xventure XV-3

It is possible to plug in the harness to both sides on the back of the JK. From what I remember it has to plug into the side where the charcoal canister is located. Because the canister restrict the amount of space available to plug the harness in people often decide to plug it in on the other...

    Information needed

We have a Canadian customer who had a box made by a company that makes custom box for oil field trucks. He said the cost was much more reasonable.

    AT Tacoma Habitat: Official Thread

As other people have said in their posts the issue is the gas struts that assists in the lid opening and closing, basically they will get in the way of the awning. Some people are trying to work solutions that put the awning outside of the gas strut sweep and there may be a solution there...

    Max Coupler Wearing Out

Not quite sure what plastic you are referring to on the coupler, the bushing is urethane. Given the environment we all use our rigs in I think cleaning is prudent for all couplers. We have been using and selling Max Couplers for 7 years or so with no issues. Chris has been improving the...

    AT Tacoma Habitat: Official Thread

No problem here. You are probably looking at 20 lbs of weight when full. The units are mounted close to the panel to the load is direct. Make sure you use the backing plates or fender washers on the inside. Caulk the holes to seal them using type II silicon.

    AT Tacoma Habitat: Official Thread

For the awning it’s not so much the weight that is the issue, it’s the load on the panels when the awning is opened. The Hannibal designed awning is free standing and the torque goes right back to the awning brackets twisting the brackets downwards. The solution is to spread the load as much as...

    Issues with Inka Outdoors

I am also very glad this was worked out and everyone is happy. This thread should be mandatory for anybody thinking of starting an Overland company. It also shows that communication is so important, and that an agreement that benefits all sides can be worked out with hard work.

    Shocks on a Torflex Axle

Shutt is using an axle that can have the rubber inserts replaced with softer or harder insert depending on your load. This demands taking the axle apart to do so, which I think is unlikely as the majority of owners don’t take the time to break their axles down to repack the bearings never mind...

    Shocks on a Torflex Axle

Torsion axles are inherently bouncy. The rubber inserts just don’t seem capable of moving at the speed of the bumps. When we have used torsion axles we have them de-rated from 3500lbs to 2500lbs to help with the bounce, but the results are less than spectacular. The only way we have found to...

Actual build cost vs markup on US built off road trailers/teardrops.

I really like it that people build there own trailers and vehicles, it’s a really innovative process that moves us all forward. Costing a product when it’s built as a hobby and costing a product as a business are two different things. The big three are materials, labor and overheads. Ordering...

Actual build cost vs markup on US built off road trailers/teardrops.

AT has been at this since 2002 and believe me when I say trailers are time consuming and expensive to build. There is some truth in what has been said about the free market and pricing being set by what the market will bare, but to be competitive you have to pricing your product in the realm of...

    Electrical diagnosis

Best to rule out each item one at a time. 1) get the battery load tested. Any of the auto parts stores can run a load test for you. Make sure the battery is fully charged before load testing. 2) find out how many amps the pump is pulling and compare it to the spec. These are your two main...

Importing a trailer into the U.S.

Two points to make here. 1) Canadian vehicle standards are identical to US standards and the VIN label the manufacture makes can state that the vehicle meets the standards for both countries. 2) Don’t get confused between Federal and State requirements. Many people have registered vehicles...

Importing a trailer into the U.S.

Unless the trailer is 25 years old it will have to meet US specs. Only authorized converters can work on the trailer to bring it up to US standards and that option is prohibitively expensive. Breaking the trailer down and reassembling the trailer to register as a home build is full of issues...

    AT Tacoma Habitat: Official Thread

The Habitat portion is very dust proof, and we get a good seal between the lift gate and the tailgate. The most common areas for dust intrusion is the truck tailgate, as mentioned above. Running bulb seal around the tailgate helps minimize this. The 3rd Gen Tacoma’s have issues with dust...

I’m really sorry about your experience with Inka. I tried to open up some way the owner could redeem himself. His current course of action is both negative for you and disastrous for his company. I sincerely hope you can extract yourself from this situation with the minimum amount of effort...
