    83 Suburban 6.2 Project

The shift rails in the NP205 need a little modification to allow the different selection options also. Then with the twin stick shifter setup you can do all kinda of fun things. With the longer wheelbase front or rear low range 'dig' can be REALLY handy. Its also really nice to be able to take...

    The center mounted winch thread....

I just checked a few things at lunch.... -Under the frame is pretty much a bust. It works ok until you get to the shackles of the front springs on my truck. -Top of the frame is a bust unless you installed a body lift. -Inside the c-channel of the frame along the drivers side rail looks to...

Generally any of the full time lockers behave about the same in a front application. -With the hubs unlocked you won't notice -With the hubs locked but NOT in 4wd you may have a VERY slight increase in steering pressure depending on drag in the system. All in all, in something heavy your not...

    The center mounted winch thread....

I would like to get it above the bottom of the frame. My truck is HEAVY for sure. I could see crushing it fairly easy. Running it under the frame works well till you get to the front spring hanger on my truck. I need to go check out directly on TOP of the frame at lunch though! I hadn't...

    The center mounted winch thread....

It all depends on the system. The ibex frame was fairly straight, or at least straight enough to make it a non-issue. I have seen both synthetic line and steel cable used. I envision using something like a continuous 1.5", .120 wall DOM tube front to back to act as a guide for the line. The...

What vehicle to purchase? (college student on a budget)

Other than being Domestic, My dodge does everything on that list. While my truck was a little beat when I got it, I only paid like $2200 for it. I still have WAY less than 8K in it total. I would have LOVED to have this truck when I was in college! There are a few 1st gen dodge builds in the...

I love my powr-lok in the snow! It's very predictable and progressive in the ice and snow. I think the big tires make it work even better? I don't use 4wd as much as I thought I would with this truck. I generally leave the hubs in for the snowy months, but don't grab the lever that much...

I agree, more traction is better than less traction. I don't really buy into the school of thought where people say automatic lockers will get in you in trouble. It takes a different driving style sometimes, and perhaps paying more attention, but its not going to cause you to burst into a ball...

2011 Dodge 3500 as an Expo? Who woulda thunk...

-on board air compressor, something as simple as a mv-50 does wonders. -Tow points front and rear, and a long strong tow strap -Good long handle shovel -larger tires. Personally I think fullsize trucks need a much larger tire to allow them to float in soft ground if the truck is 7000lbs+ -Full...

Jantz engineering makes a set of adapter bearings that let you use a Dana 70 ring and pinion on a D70 carrier in a low pinion Dana 60. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=914583 If you start with a 1st gen powr-lok you have to convert it from 32 to 35 spline. The parts to do this...

I'm going to try and start with the 3200rm spring. The transmission swap would definitely be expensive. That is probably down the road a bit. I will try and keep an eye out for some cheap parts, but it will probably be a bit for sure. Now gearing on the other hand. My rear brakes are getting...

yeah, it would have been interesting to get some pics, next time for sure! I did measure Istzephyr's front springs compared to mine. His springs (2.5" skyjackers? ) sit 1/2" taller than mine, measured from the fender edge to the the hub. So, with my big thick springs and their packaging...

I finally fixed the clutch linkage! It should last another few hundred thousand miles now. First you have to take the clutch pedal out. There is a little 3/8" bolt on the passenger side of the pedal pack. This holds the pivot shaft in the pedal assembly. I used a stubby 1/4" drive 3/8 socket...

Currently the truck will go 75-80 in 5th no problem. That is only about 2000rpm. I don't want to gear the truck too low. I like to be able to run the interstate at speed. Basically the truck currently needs a 1.5 gear to start in, a 3.5 gear would be nice, and a 4.5 gear wouldn't be a bad idea...

Thanks! Its deceptive how 'stock' the truck looks. The big fender opening and the big tires along with no lift are a golden combo. I have tons of clearance under the diffs and the truck isn't sitting up so high you can't get in. The wind resistance, for a brick, is also minimized since the...
