Volcano climbs and eruptions
After our last wedding guests left town we still had some time to kill while the 4Runner was getting some surgery. We met a couple of fun German backpackers, Fabian and Puck, while hostel-hopping and they had convinced us to tag-along on a day-trip to climb...
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
Another month has passed along with another long period of silence on our end. We've since crossed several borders and it's hard to believe how much has happened since we left our little bubble of peace in Lake Atitlan. For the sake of consistency, our story...
Excellent writeup...I only have one major complaint. Why didn't you write this before February 2012, BEFORE I had someone else do an inferior setup for me???
I could've saved about $100 bucks and maybe upgraded the solenoid with the leftover cash. Maybe then I would'nt be 'stuck' in Costa...
While I was waiting for your latest post to load I realized that I missed one of your earlier posts about Chiapas...we went to the ruins in Tonina too and thought that place was epic! There was nobody there, it was monstrous, and beautiful...glad you took the time to check it out.
Good thing...
Absolutely...at times I wish I did. The only reason I wouldn't is because I'm not comfortable putting the Mrs. on two wheels yet. NEXT trip maybe :)
Moto-travelers definitely have an upside because they can park/ride in places that we can't...often right in front of their hostel room's door...
I wish we would have rented a car for that drive...between Lanquin and Semuc Champey, that road annihilated a ball joint and our idler arm.
Semuc Champey truly is a magical place, although I wouldn't really say that few tourists go there.
We have tossed thru the contents of our truck several times, but not sure a tarp is the fastest way to go about it. We typically start in one corner, tear everything out of a cabinet or container and decide what's necessary, the person puts it back while the other is pulling everything out of...
For folks buying a vehicle in Canada it often seems that there are more 4WD options that we don't have in the states, like vans, double-cab hiluxes, and more diesel options. I think people planning for a Pan-Am trip should keep their eyes on the used car market in Canada as long as it's...
That reminds me, we'd like to thank our sponsors: Checking & Savings :coffeedrink:
Bip Bip, hijack away. Vehicle choice is such a hot topic for folks planning for the Pan-Am. I think they would appreciate reading about 'hindsight' in that arena too, so I'd consider it on topic.
I didn't...
Great points.
Diplostrat, I completely agree and we brought all that stuff because I cry like a baby if I don't have thermal underwear and wool socks. It just feels dumb carrying it all while we're in Central America. It could have been nice if we would've waited until we got to Colombia to...
I think we fall into the category of "less elaborate meals"...it's important to point out that all of the fridge naysayers here sleep inside their vehicles, so comfortable space is a premium, not worth jeopardizing for cold food/drinks. Most of the pro-fridge travelers seem to be sleeping in a...
Sorry Wiley, we've been a little distracted lately by vehicle issues and Guatemala's Independance Day :sombrero:. Since you've called us out...
Our Wedding Day
Even though we had been engaged for a year, we didn't actually decide where our wedding was going to be until about three months...
Thanks for the info. We've got contact info for at least two different folks in Guate City that can get us an awning, including their source. We haven't called yet because we're trying to sort out an electrical short first...
By the way, Happy "One Year On The Road" Anniversary!
I forgot about the fridge! We completely agree. We had a 14qt Engel and even though it was tiny we decided it wasn't worth the space that it gobbled up. Ultimately we left it behind with my brother. Do we miss it? Not really. As Bip Bip said you can usually pick up what you need at the...
Here's our ridiculously long list...
Health: we originally packed TONS of 1st-aid gear for 'what-if?' situations since we're both medical professionals, but then I realized that 90% of it was impractical when it would be just the two of us and we had a mobile ICU. If anything serious were to...
The title says it all...we started a similar discussion on our Facebook page and it was recommended by Lost World Expedition and ADVODNA that we continue the discussion here. Hopefully this thread helps those who are getting ready to hit the road for a while, or at least serves as a reminder...
Glad to hear you're still truckin! Thanks for the shout out on your blog, yours IS the greatest in the multiverse
...although I should point out that the free Ebook was made by Life Remotely, not us! You may want to give credit where it's due.
