The first car I remember liking as a kid was the 82-85 Supra. I thought that the front grill was killer looking and I dug the SUPRA across the rear side of the hatch. Little did I know that they were actually dogs when it came to performance :-)
Be sure to bring papers showing that you are in the country legally. UK plates might be "reasonable suspicion" to suspect you are illegal and throw you in the clink if you don't have your papers in order.
:-/
I put Tuff Country add-a-leaf springs on the rear of a 88 4Runner that I had to level the saggy springs with the front height. They were about 18 inches long and very thick... they leveled it ok, but they rode like I had put bricks between the axle and frame.
A few years later I decided to...
Of course, the waste dumped from trains falls out at 60 mph onto the RR bed which is a thick bed of rocks... the defecation/per mile are probably pretty low and scattered thinly so they soak in or dry on the rock. Not to mention that Amtrak doesn't particularly want people walking on the tracks...
That hotdog looks great, except maybe a little too much mayo (or crema?) :-D
The foods that were most unusual my my gringo pallet that I've encountered in my travels were chapulines and tacos made with gusanos de maguey in Oaxaca. I had the chapulines loose in the market, and I was told that...
I think that statement is true for vehicles made in the last 20 years. In the 1970s and 80s, it was a different story. Toyota forced the American companies to improve quality if they wanted to compete... and even helped in the case of the NUMMI Toyota+GM collaboration.
I think an old Hilux...
This is interesting seeing everyone's travel lists.
I've been to :
USA
Canada
Mexico
Guatemala
Honduras
El Salvador
Nicaragua
Costa Rica
Panama
I could be a reference for Northern and Western Nicaragua since I've spent about 4 months total living/traveling on that side of the country before...
I have a Columbia like this one:

I think it's called a "Columbia Duck Key Hat"
It's great. I can roll it up and shove it in a pack or pocket, get it sweaty (and it has a good sweat band inside to keep it out of my...
Wow.
Two large pics.
Damn, those blocks are scary. I'd be very afraid of them collapsing sideways...

Hiluxes are assembled/built in:

That looks like a M-416 military trailer:
http://www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_vehicle_id_trailers.php
If it is a m416, they are 1/4 ton trailers made to be pulled by military jeeps, which were 4 cylinders and topped out at about 40-50 mph.
According to this site, m416s weigh 610 lbs...
I saw this for sale on Wed in Johnson City, Texas (West of Austin). It's a cool looking 'Cruiser in need of some serious TLC...
Your guess is as good as mine as far as the phone number...

Ditto. I've been there, it's not nice. I'd recommend welding outside with a box fan blowing from the side.
Great looking trailer, and the history of it :D While you are reworking it, I'd put a flat area between the fenders and the side brace at the front. It'd be a great place for a couple...
Very cool trip. I like their quote from the last page of the diary:
Anyone who doubts the future of humanity needs to take a road trip in a cool old car.
Anyone who doubts their ability to refrain from whining needs to do the trip in a car with a top and a windshield.
Coen,
The "restification" is looking good. I'm also following your posts on facebook (I'm Gene who commented on your industrial strength ear plugs [diff breather filters])
Your spring hanger looks odd in these photos... is it out boarded from the frame? They look vulnerable, but that's...
Wow, that bed is done.
Considering the bed condition, be sure to check for rust on the frame. One common rust area seem to be at the rear spring perch area.
That dent in the front looks like it could be 90% fixed with a new fender.
$1100 seems like too much, but prices may vary in your area...
Is anyone into hacking/modding a GPS?
I was given an old Magellan Maestro 4000 yesterday, and I've been reading up on how to modify it to improve it's functionality. Since it runs WindowsCE, it's pretty simple to modify.
This site got me started. Anyone familiar with administrating Windows...
