    Backing myself into a corner?

Body's all good. Anything to do with the steering is completely gone. The owners have tried "adjusting" things and made it worse than any drive I've ever been in. And I've driven some real clunkers. Motor needs replaced (a likely thing for me to do with anything I'm going to buy to be on the...

    Backing myself into a corner?

The truck for a variety reasons is relegated to winter, hunting and plow service. Plus let's face it, when it comes to turning radius Chevy trucks just ain't it. Well so far seems like everyone is on the same page and it doesn't seem I'm missing anything newer. Funny Tarditi brought up the mil...

    Backing myself into a corner?

I've grown tired of traveling in what feels like a rolling storage closet and am going back to FS after a few years away. I've been leaning heavily towards a Bronco or pre-92 Blazer build for the simplicity. Unless I'm riding in something fairly new I just understand and trust the older...

ZJ Lift Height and Tire Size

Skip the OEM and go to the Moog coils. In the back make sure you get their heavy duty progressive springs. Skip the1", go 2" & 31's. Not extreme in the least and makes a ZJ very capable.

    Black Bear and Lockers

We did Black Bear in our ZJ a couple weeks ago (just a couple days before the "incident"). Like stated NO LOCKERS needed, rear is OK but you DON'T WANT a front locker engaged. I'm with the crowd of "been there, done that, don't need to do it again". In reality I kinda enjoyed BB but hate the...

ZJ or XJ jeep for expedition ?

Had both, couldn't go back to an XJ. There is a huge difference in cargo capacity. FYI, a 31" and probably a 32" will fit in the factory spare location on a ZJ. I have no idea your terrain but a I6 ZJ is fine unless you are mountain highway driving. It will get better MPG and already has the...

Thinking about moving to a full-size

I've been a long time lurker with very few posts myself and you can take this for what it's worth....... You need to drop some requirements and focus on minimal rust, 4 square corners and reliable. When I say drop requirements that may even include 4x4. Definitely drop ideas of SAS swaps...

    XJ or WJ

Never had a WJ but owned an XJ and ZJ at the same time. The extra size and weight of a GC is well worth the price unless you fly solo. XJ's are cheap and easy to mod, great in town, great on trails......... but dang they are small. The XJ is gone, the ZJ is still here and gonna be hauling 4 of...

    Best Large SUV stock?

Actually no, I stated that an extended cab pickup is a better overland vehicle for a family of 4 than most full size SUV's. Been there, done that, in both types. You can even throw a few thousand miles behind the wheel and 10 times that riding in a 2WD Suburban with 5 people. Add a few long...

4 Vehicle Choice for Budget SUV

The 4.0 is a solid engine, I've had 2 (3 if you count a 4.2) and they are great. The solid 3 MPG increase over the 5.2 is what... 20%? That's reason enough. The Bronco I'm dreaming up will be my first purpose built overland rig for road tripping out west with the wife. It'll see it's share of...

    Best Large SUV stock?

I'll throw another vote in for a truck over SUV. Sure, if you are a suburbanite and expo'ing than an SUV might be just the ticket. Out here in the sticks with dead critters, stinky dogs, hay bails, brush, etc an SUV is second priority and about as versatile as a butter knife. We recently went...

    Reliability v ease of repairs?

Personally I don't see why we can't have or cake and eat it too. I'm not a new truck/car guy. As a matter of fact I'm cheaper than dirt and prefer to let someone else eat most of the depreciation. What it all means is I own older vehicles from the 1980's, 90's and early 2000's. To be honest I...

4 Vehicle Choice for Budget SUV

I've always had a hang up for MPG's and 6's but you have a valid concern with the power. I too get tired of lack of power but calculating the mileage when I fill up helps tremendously :D. Plus I HATE the 249 or any full time AWD for that matter. Being said you may of just talked me into a 351...

4 Vehicle Choice for Budget SUV

All it took to fit 31's on our 4.0 is BB pucks and extended bump stops. I'll probably swap in new OME springs later this year or next but for Colorado this year it's going as it sits. Issues with the VIC are hugely over discussed. It's an easy delete but ours hasn't given us a lick of troubles...

4 Vehicle Choice for Budget SUV

Just joined, first post, couple week old thread, I'll try to make it worth it......... Currently have a 1998 Grand Cherokee. The 4.0 GC is reliable, gets decent MPG's (19-20 backroads, 18 interstate, both with 2" lift and 31's) and is down right easy/cheap to fit 31's on. Rear axle is the weak...
