Ok, thanks. I have a vacation trip coming up soon and was hoping to improve on comms. This hollering out the window stuff is wearing thin. Weather alerts would be nice too. I could go with a dedicated weather unit in the trailer but it won't help much in the cab while traveling.
I have a nice...
Correct, FRS only would be the ticket and no license fee is Ok by me. My other radio is FRS only so I really don't need nor want GMRS. But to get the features I want, I can only find them in a combo unit. Unless I am not looking in the right places.
Oh well, maybe I'll bite the bullet and go...
Yes, It lines up very favorably with its non camo brother, the GTX1000VP4 and both are packaged 2x tho. A real plus for me then would the single pack version of the GTX1000VP4, a GTX1000AX at nearly half the price. I only need one as I have an older less featured FRS only to pair with a new...
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately manufacturers are not offering much info regarding the 2 watt spec. Or at least Amazon is adverse to noting it. Then again I have only been looking at bubble pack radios. Do you know of a Midland/Motorola model that does 2 watts?
Looking for recommendation(s) for a portable, rechargeable unit including charger but also with ability to operate with batteries. Must have NOAA weather alert capabilities and preferably be county/local area specific. Range not too important but greater rather than less will be of course...
Thanks. I haven't been on the SpotWalla site much recently and was not aware of the APRS.
I personally use the Bubbler app these days and the APRS will make a nice addition.
Thank you.

Way better web interface and updates as quick as you set it up to update. SpotWalla has flawlessly followed me around for...
Thanks.
I don't have much room up there. My truck has two panel moon roof and leaves about 10" of roof to the rear or so to mount. With all that glass forward of the ant, be ok?
I may just order a fender mount and mock it up just to see.
Meanwhile I'll make some calls.
Here I go again.
I traded out of my Toyota after removing the radio, Diamond lip mount, etc. and Larson 2/70.
The lip mount *might* work on the side of the hood or on the back edge near the windshield but neither location appeals to me.
I fender mount seems the easiest but do they accommodate a...
Picking up some good ideas! Keep em coming!
Sub'ed with a 2016 screw XLT Sport 4x4. Opted for tonneau cover over a topper. ABR fridge will ride in the bed and now trying to decide if I want to keep the National Luna power pack or not. Its not looking good to get wires from the eng bay/cab to the...
One year old with cover located in East TN. Excellent condition with low hours.
Prefer trade for similar. You keep your wires, etc and ship the box only.
Or make offer on my 47L complete including cover plus shipping.

I tried that with Velcro for the head unit but it was difficult to see and operate. Next I tried a cup holder/goose neck mount from Lido mounts in the forward cup holder. I didn't care for that for the head unit.
I finally put a mount from these guys on the A pillar...
What I about to say is android based.
I build a route in whatever mapping program I want to use, either BaseCamp or Mapsource.
Convert the route .gpx file into a track .gpx file (when in a track file, the route is followed with any weird changes)
Save the track .gpx file where Gaia can find it...
