    BIG CAMPERS

I saw pics of them when I was looking for the pic I posted above. That's a crazy unit for the 70's for sure.

    BIG CAMPERS

I don't disagree that they had issues in how they handled. Massively heavy, underpowered and CG that's way up and rearward over a stock K5. But the main reason they went away was they couldn't give them away. The cost was extreme and it still was a time when fuel costs were rising radically...

    BIG CAMPERS

Oh, I got the point. It's pretty obvious the legal eagles in the OEMs are playing CYA in so many ways. But as you noted it's been going on for years. I've got a pic of a Label in a '91 K5 that a buddy has that he bought with a Four Wheel Camper on it like mine. Yep says the same thing...

    BIG CAMPERS

Anybody that dumb to put a camper that big in a 1/2 ton anything deserved what they got. So much of the weight of that camper is beyond the rear axle there is no surprise to me that the frame taco'd like that. I'm betting the poor sucker that bought it didn't have a clue, but the jerk that...

Will stock F150 be able to do white rim trail?

I'd check with the rangers at the visitors center in Canyonlands for conditions. I was there last month for my first run of WRT with my buddy that's done it 4 times before. The recent monsoon rains that happened prior to labor day this year caused a lot of washouts and rougher conditions on...

    Suburban Poptop vs. Excursion Poptop….

I bet you could probably work it out. 2500 Suburban for sale in Ft. Collins. Engine and t-case recently replaced within 10k miles, fresh radiator and fresh front end. It's a high miler, so it could be riddled with all the same worn out issues yours has, but it's under 10k. Might be...

    Suburban Poptop vs. Excursion Poptop….

The diesel could be modified for veggie oil or other bio-fuel in a SHTF type scenario. Short of a full collapse of society, Gasoline will still be available to get if only more expensive as time rolls on. I get the preference to the Barn door. It limits your window to find an 8.1 Burb...

    Suburban Poptop vs. Excursion Poptop….

Pretty much how I've looked at fuel costs. Had I not put the camper on, mine was great with the 5.3. But the weight and aero drag killed the fun on the hills/mountains. It needed more, so we stuffed the 8.1 in. I got twice the power with the same fuel economy. That's a win in my book...

    Suburban Poptop vs. Excursion Poptop….

I know it's hard to belive, but I've had trips where the 8.1 got 16 and 15 mpg. Sure, driven like a dumb kid (which at times is hard not to do) it can get 8mpg. Average is 12-13mpg driven sanely. But keep in mind my truck tips the scales at 7,400 pounds loaded for a week long trip and has...

    Suburban Poptop vs. Excursion Poptop….

I'm partial to the Burb, but I'm a Chevy guy. That being said as used up as the Burb is, when you take the pop-top off of it, you got a hell of a worthless lump with a giant hole in the roof, which means zero resale value except if somebody wants the LS to swap into something else. But then...

Project “Polar Bear”: 1989 V2500 Suburban

My poor '75 K5 was on the end of the Sidewinder a couple of times. One of which pulled hard enough to tear the transmission cross-member where it was hung up on a ledge. The '75 had been on the end of the smittybuilt cable too. The winch broke before the truck was rescued. I think the...

Desert Trip 2022, Tour De Hanksville (UT)

That area is great for exploring. Wasn’t hard/technical wheeling but ticked the box for remoteness. We usually do pretty good on the meals we don’t normally take pics of the food I know we didn’t scratch the surface of the area. It’s an awesome place for sure.

    91 GMC Suburban build

Right on. I’ve known a couple of guys that have installed DI 5.3’s into squares and they are doing well. I’m interested to see how the 6.6 gasser does as it should be better in every way over the smaller versions.

Guess who's back!?! Atl-atl's K5 Blazer + Four Wheel Camper "The Crawlin Cabin" documentation thread!

You have the larger cab-over section like mine. It might have the pull-out section, but the later Blazer Campers were shorter in that they barely reached the top of the windshield.

Guess who's back!?! Atl-atl's K5 Blazer + Four Wheel Camper "The Crawlin Cabin" documentation thread!

It depended on the options for sure. I'd say a unit with a 3-way fridge would weigh in a smidge more than one with an Icebox. Keep in mind, I've found some that came with a plywood floor that had carpet or linoleum and some didn't have anything but the carpet the Blazer came with. Mine came...

Guess who's back!?! Atl-atl's K5 Blazer + Four Wheel Camper "The Crawlin Cabin" documentation thread!

According to FWC on a manufacturer statement of origin for a 1984 Blazer camper with a 3 way fridge, furnace, sink/stove and bench. Shipping weight was 665 pounds. Here it is.

Return to Hermit Pass, Colorado 6.11.22

That's how you earn karma points. Sucks you had to cut the hike short, but you did the right thing considering the guy and his kid were not prepared for what they got into. I've run around a bunch in that area over the last 20 years and kinda surprising just how far off the mark his GPS...
