"Importation of Vehicles Over 21 Years Old: EPA has long interpreted the equivalence requirement to mean that the engine must be identical to the engine that was originally installed. Such an engine is one that is the same model and configuration as the original engine."...
Awesome defender, I'm curious as to why the person who did the rebuild kept the non-puma pre-07 firewall with vents. As the puma bodys didn't have vents. Instead was it just doors and bonnet that was replaced with puma parts? So is there unusable vents behind the puma dash now?
Rad truck, Mitch- I've seen it before in person (I'm an American that has a home in Simons Town) only unfortunate bit is it can't be exported to the states due to the TDI engine swap. you'll have to re-install the original 2.25l-2.6l engine and get the title to reflect it or else it won't make...
Just my two cents—this post pulled me out of hibernation here on EP. You’d have a tough time selling for even $65K, especially considering that the median sale price of an FJ in the U.S. is under $20K, which also eliminates any financing options.
I understand and respect the time and effort...
What'cha got planned now, what's next. I see you've listed quite a few vehicles for sale recently. Expo rig, boat, motorbikes, island in Fiji? hahaha, anyways GLWS, its an awesome rig.
Whirlwind of events and ive kind of fallen in love with this truck so, I'm not going to sell it quite yet. recently decided to put a bunch more dough into it and its magical. Swapped the engine out for a 1HDT-FE 24 valve turbo diesel with automatic transmission, swapped front hubs to locking...
Maybe
maybe difference in MPG lies in the 20% longer overdrive gear, ecu eco and power remapping and the fact that it has nothing inside behind the drivers seats. You can tune the 1 and 3 UZ to be very very efficient engines. They’re very quite too Idling, I’m also pretty sure you’re Aussie...
I've always followed this rig, almost bought it for $120k in 2017 when they offered it for sale back then, but decided to keep it. Sweet vehicle- I think the thought that it may go for 200+ is a bit of a stretch, that's new host 4x4 camper territory along with a strong EU market of importable...
I got it as a crate motor, but I believe it came out of a 97' Lexus SC400- since its the VVTI. Its been rebuilt, about 12,000kms on the rebuild- and is mated to the prados stock automatic transmission. The engine has been tuned, but is stock parts wise except for silicone hoses and aftermarket caps.
