I can't help you with U.S. import/smog questions but would be interesting to figure out exactly which LC you're talking about. I lived in RSA in the late 80's & early 90's and Hiluxes were everywhere but actual Land Cruisers we not really common at all, surprisingly.
Import taxes were very high...
Is he saying only 720 miles since new? That's how I read it.
What kind of mileages are normal for surplus LMTVs? What do you get for $8k?
In spite of a few shortcomings, an virtually brand-new LMTV is a lot of truck.
Do you have a personal mechanic, like confining yourself in a cramped noisy cabin, own shares in an oil company, and a thick wallet?
Then yes, UNIMOG is most definitely for you! :Wow1:
Hi. I've owned a KLR 650 in the past and ridden a lot of bikes. I'd call myself an intermediate rider with beginner off-road skills.
I'm mostly looking for a commuter that can handle medium-short highway trips. Never looked at Husquvarna too hard until now.
Any comments/observations on this...
I don't think there's any grounds to import it without it being over 25 years old, but...
interesting thing is that they were built in Canadian factory (Western Star) and may have a Canadian VIN. You might be able to register it in some states, but California doesn't sound like a good bet.
I've wondered if/when those were going to hit the surplus market. Look cool and good off-road ability but how practical are they for a private owner in North America?
They didn't seem to be well-liked within the Canadian Forces.
We should file some kind of lawsuit. No fair using the California name unless you can actually buy one in California (and, therefore, 49 other states)!
I've owned VW Microbuses, Syncros, and know a dozen or more Sprinter owners. I'd love to have a nice T1N Sprinter, or an new 4x4.
But...
I had a AWD Express as my work vehicle for almost 2 years. Great traction, and fuel economy wasn't terrible. 16+MPG, maybe better on the highway.
No major...
Guess this is a good place to throw this out there since I havn't seen it anywhere else in the forum.
No 4wd or diesel but an interesting development:

Think about all of the factory-built travel trailers with tanks permanently mounted on the hitch tongue. Would having a tank on the roof really absorb that much more solar energy?

yeah, I saw "girlfriend" and "DD" in the subject line and my first thought was, wait....what does this have to do with trucks?
My second thought was "midsize DD".... what's that?
Pretty sure all the usual caveats about European military surplus trucks will apply: top speed around 60mph, cruising speed a little less. Probably a fun rig nonetheless. Rare on this side of the Atlantic.
