The 5.9 FIAT diesel is well-proven, reliable, and common to construction equipment. Parts are widely available. The transmission might be a Chrysler unit, not particularly great but serviceable.
The last IVECO's were sold here in 1990 and dealer support was discontinued at least 10 years ago...
I'm NOT a fan of International products (would much rather have a Fuso or similar) but for someone looking for a new-build medium duty 4x4 with a warranty in the North American market I think they've produced a competitive product.
Many thousands of those motors (10's of thousands, probably) were sold here in the colder regions. Locally blended winter diesel should be adequate; add your own #1 diesel or kerosene (available almost anywhere) to be sure. 1# or K1 will not hurt the motor and only costs pennies more.
I remember a couple of those. Must mean '78, though.
quite sure they did exist in real life. Also remember a few similar Ford Courier (Mazda) conversions.
I was told that a small but significant number of crew cab UDs were built on new-build Japanese trucks by a converter in Indiana in the early '90's.
Most of them were for fire departments. This is the first one I've seen in over 10 years. I don't know who put the fuel tank in the middle of the...

UD is closing in North America but strong in much of the rest of the world.
Motors & drivetrain have a good reputation.
Parts prices my go up but will be available for 10+ years, maybe longer.
Just started a thread on a somewhat expedition-vehicle related project over here:

Thought there might be more 5th wheel users over here.
Ideas and advice welcome.
Also, what is the maximum height for the 5th wheel pin on a typical trailer, and what are typical clearance requirements for the bumper, tailgate of the truck?
I may have used the wrong terminology. Don't remember the exact number but the GCVRW was at least 10,000 lbs (I want to say something like 13K) more than the GVW. In my case my 10,000 lb trailer is going to be well within the axle and brake ratings of the truck traveling in a straight line, i.e...
Hi.
Couldn't decide which forum to put this in so thought I'd start here.
I have a HINO SG, which is very similar to a Mitsubishi FM. Towing capacity is listed at over 10,000 pounds.
Chassis has a 230" wheelbase, and is bare, working on a design.
Assuming the chassis is loaded to say, 2/3...
