Lithium Ion jump pack failed today during a jump, looking for ideas on what happened?

I have (had) a Micro Start XP-3 jump pack that I keep in my Outback as backup in case I ever over drain the main battery on a camping trip. Have never had to use it for myself but have used it to jump others many times. Excellent product, never had any issues in the maybe 7 or 8 years I've had...

Need help designing awning supports for my camp trailer.

I recently bought the Ironman 6.5' awning with the plan to install it on metal risers on the side of my small camp gear trailer. Purchased some 80/20 extrusions to rig up a mounting system (see pics) that has the awning on one side of trailer with ability to slide it down for highway driving...

Need help with best practices for charging up and monitoring my deep cycle battery

Thanks. I had been using a crappy cheap SC from Amazon but just upgraded to the SunSaver 6 (https://2n1s7w3qw84d2ysnx3ia2bct-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/datasheet-sunsaver-en.pdf). Have not used it IRL yet but spec sheet says 14.4 for 12v flooded as charge output.

Refilling 5lb propane tank from 20lb?

Look a little closer, the videos are almost all for filling "non refillable" 1 lb bottles (or some dummy filling one 20 lb tank from another 20 lb tank), not the reusable 5 and 10 lb tanks. The 1lb refill kits have a different fitting for those bottles. I know can throw an adapter on there to...

Refilling 5lb propane tank from 20lb?

Don't know, it was too much of a hassle. Can't recall details, nobody nearby, overnight processes, and I think it only got you a couple more years. The tank is now too old to recert anyway, but its in like-new condition. Easiest thing is to refill, even if only to 80% capacity, from a 20lb tank...

Refilling 5lb propane tank from 20lb?

Does anyone refill 5lb or 10lb propane tanks from a standard 20lb tank? I have a 5lb tank that is in excellent condition but is just couple years too old to be filled at the station here. I think you get max 5 years before needing re certify them in CA. Can I refill this from a 20lb tank? I see...

Need help with best practices for charging up and monitoring my deep cycle battery

Just bought and installed the tr16 unit. I think this is going to help significantly in giving reliable info on the SOC for my batt. I also suspect that you're right about under charging from solar and my Genius 3.5 amp charger. Both seemed to indicate the batt was full when it was really only...

Need help with best practices for charging up and monitoring my deep cycle battery

They did some overnight test that I think just involves bringing it up to full charge then checking it after the surface charge dissipates. They also tested with hydrometer. Everything looked fine but I told him the issue is it drops quickly over a week or two from 12.7 to 12.5 (100%-80%). So...

Need recommendations for new tough rain shell

That Kutana jacket looks like what I'm after. But man it's Fjallraven expensive! Need to find a used one.

Need help with best practices for charging up and monitoring my deep cycle battery

Been having charging issues with my Interstate SRM-24 deep cycle batt that I thought meant the batt was bad (battery seems to discharge quickly even when not in use). Had Interstate load test it overnight and it seems ok. Now I'm thinking the issue is a combination of my charging and monitoring...

Need recommendations for new tough rain shell

I love Carhartt's fabrics and general styles but nothing ever fits me right. I think I'm too small/light for their gear. It's a lesson I keep "learning" every time I try something from them. Duluth looks to be the same, all made for bigger guys.

Basic bare bones solar power controller?

I'm looking at some of the Morningstar units as a replacement. They seem to be higher quality . When looking into the Renology Wanderer error code I'm getting it seems that a bunch of other owners ran into same issue and Renology replaced under warranty for units that seem to work for them...

Basic bare bones solar power controller?

Update: purchased Renology Wanderer last year sometime. Used with Interstate SRM-24 12v deep cycle and a 100w Rockpals panel. Seemed to be working ok at first but a few months ago I started getting an E10 error code on the SCC which indicates solar panel over voltage (?). I assumed I did...

Need recommendations for new tough rain shell

I need a new rain shell, looking for recommendations for brands I may not know about. Current shell is the Fjallraven Skogso, which I love! The fabric is a tough poly cotton blend or something. Lots of pockets, good fit, excellent hood etc. My only gripe is that its a waxed shell and while it...

Is it safe to charge an aux deep cycle battery from the cars 12v supply on a long drive?

For a little more detail: It is flooded deep cell, Interstate. I charge up at home via the Genius 3500. Once in camp I have a 100w solar panel w Renology Charge controller. That's enough to extend the batt an extra day or maybe two if there's lot of sun. But on longer road trip, with stops at...

Is it safe to charge an aux deep cycle battery from the cars 12v supply on a long drive?

Is it safe to charge an aux deep cycle battery from the cars 12v supply on a long drive? I have a 12v group 24 deep cycle batt in my small tag-along gear trailer. The battery runs my fridge in camp but only lasts about 3 days on average. Looking for an easy way to top it off as we drive between...

DIY camp kitchen kit from Pelican 1560 (pics and a question)

More or less final set up for now. In the end the Blue Ridge Overland supplied self adhesive hook and loop worked fine for attaching their small velcro backed pouches to the lid. They tear off easy without feeling like I'm going to pull the velcro off the lid.

DIY camp kitchen kit from Pelican 1560 (pics and a question)

Thanks. Yes, black coroplast with selfadehsive 1/8" foam. MUCH cheaper than the stuff from Pelican! And easy to assemble. I used weed barrier staples to pin the pieces together through the coroplast holes on top.

DIY camp kitchen kit from Pelican 1560 (pics and a question)

Would love to just use the molle panel, but I need the full depth of the lid to make it all fit. I think the screw mounts are proud if the lid by at least 1/2" plus the thickness of the panel and molle attachments. Was going to avoid harcore glueing in for the velcro, but maybe that's the best...

DIY camp kitchen kit from Pelican 1560 (pics and a question)

Building a new camp kitchen storage kit from a used Pelican 1560. Old kit was a Frontrunner Wolfpack. The small amount of extra room in the Pelican allows me to add some DIY dividers to keep things better organized. For small items I plan to velcro in a few of these zipper pouches from Blue...
