98 XJ 5.3 Swap and Other Stuff

Excellent build thread, you're doing a very clean job of everything. I will be following along.

    XJ project MORTY

You can slip an angle grinder in and cut the bolt off at both ends. Just jam a prybar or something into the pocket to spread it a bit. It's the easiest thing to do at this point, IMHO, as the bolt isn't likely worth saving. Just be careful, it's easy to mess things up. If you have a...

2 Door XJ Seats in 4 Door? TJ Seats?

I would love to see pictures of the mounts.

    XJ project MORTY

Did you get that bolt out without breaking the nut free, or tearing the threads out of it? I've gone in from the floor to fix those more times than I would like.

I know a guy that does it all the time. It's kinda awkward because with the way it sits, but the reality is they can't build a dinky little windshield frame with current safety standards, so there's no getting away from it. Personally I think the windshield is one of the better inventions of...

J8 to be built in South Carolina ???

I think I've had people sit there 4? times. Normally they're just folded down. More room for junk. But the second set of doors is handy for getting at said junk.

Overland XJ Build. Not my first Rodeo.....(video included)

Where is that yard? The back glass, seat brackets, interior pieces from the rear part of the cab, fuel tank, rear flares, tailgate, and taillights are gold to MJ owners as they are all very unavailable.

Oh, absolutely I believe they will screw it up. I even told the local dealer that if I could order the JK I wanted, I would do it, no hesitation, and they just say "It can't be done." And all I wanted was the Rubi axles/tcase/suspension, the low gears for those axles (4.10), an auto trans, and...

    Jeep Pickup pics

If they went to larger/heavier tube axles there would be very limited room for complaint about them, IMHO, at least if they're using the Rubicon versions, as they are a lot stronger than what was typically offered in prior light trucks otherwise. Better knuckles/Cs and wheel bearings would also...

    Jeep Pickup pics

The other current offerings of light trucks are, umm, how do you say it... Junk? Okay, they drive nice, most of them are overgrown and huge, and have rated payload capacities of older 3/4 ton trucks. But most of them are very lackluster offroad, and like I said, huge. I used to DD a...

J8 to be built in South Carolina ???

Actually, you can build a way more capable rig for less than the sticker price of a 'normal' JK Rubicon. Never mind whatever premium you will have to pay for the stuff in this thread. But, some prefer not to roll their own, or don't have the know-how, or the time... With the JK you can throw...

Does anybody else think matte paint looks like garbage on a new vehicle?

Yes. Not sure how well they sold. http://www.classicmo.com/j8.htm

J8 to be built in South Carolina ???

Well, since it's actually a regular production JK with some bolt ons, they can sell it to the public via existing Jeep dealers. It's like getting the dealer to install a lift and tires for you. Unlike the J8, which is actually a different vehicle, and would be hard to sell since it's not...

Lets hear your choices for batteries for a dual battery set up

AGMs in general seem to enjoy a slightly higher charging voltage, which causes some headache depending on your charging system. Having bought two Optimas, and had both of them fail in short order, I would never run one again. They WERE a good battery, prior to about 2007? Then they...

    Love Boat build!

Drilling stainless can be a real PITA. Sharp bits, slow the speed down, use Rapid Tap or something like that to keep them cool/lubricated, and if it heats up without cutting you're hooped because it hardens the stainless. That rack looks good so far, should be nice and sturdy.

Smittybilt JK XRC bumper tire carrier

I finally realized Smittybilt released a 2nd gen XRC rear bumper and tire carrier for the JK. Not big news. However, I'm curious how the tire carrier works. It's mounted on a spindle/hinge on the bumper, and is attached to the tailgate, so it is a single latch system (the stock tailgate latch)...
