@chaos the paint job was NOT cheap! The body was sandblasted for many hours to remove the thick noxious army paint, then smoothed out with body filler, and eventually sprayed. The real cost was getting the trailer bed down to bare metal. It was in the $1500 ball park.

I totally understand the angles with the mounting. Indeed it wouldn't work and would 100% damage the tent. Inverted Leg presses are what I've done to get the truck cap off the last few I've owned. Sketchy and stupid would be a few words to describe that task. Gas strut option looks doable...
