❇️ How To Super INSULATE 12v Chest Fridge / Freezer?

I have been using a 12 volt ICECO VL60 chest fridge/freezer 24/7 for the last three years and it has worked perfectly. I’m thinking about buying the larger ICECO VL90 chest fridge/freezer for my box truck to camper conversion build.

Since I’ll have a lot more room in the box truck I would like to SUPER INSULATE the outside of the VL90 in a way that I will still be able to pull it out on slides and easily access the fridge and freezer from the top.

I was thinking of possibly using Velcro to adhere poly iso foam sheets to the bottom, sides and top. (Obviously I will keep the vents open.)

Anyone done this? Got any ideas?

I have been thinking of doing something to insulate my Amazon fridge. I've thought of using the foil/bubble or left over EVA foam from my boat.

Some companies make insulated covers. Perhaps there is one available for your fridge. I have a set power fridge and purchased a set power insulated cover for it and I’ve been very happy.

Build your own.
12V compressors/evaporators/condensers and a thermostat can be purchased. The rest is an insulated box that you can easily build any size, any shape, with the best insulation at any thickness.

The compressor/condenser should be remote form the rest of the unit so as not to spoil the insulation.
Insulation is closed cell polyurethane foam 150mm thick.

Hmm, I was going to build one in a boat I used to have but never got around to it. That could save me some $ and certainly end up with something much better than anything on the market. I’ll need to make another deep dive into building one so thanks for reminding me!👍

ICECO makes covers too. Haven’t seen one in the physical but they look kinda thin. Have you noticed a difference using a cover vs no cover? Less cycling?

Just my 2 cents, yes, you can insulate it, and even get creative. Just don't forget to upgrade the actual exhaust of the heat that motor produces. I always have run an extra fan on our ARB fridges in hot weather. It would run nonstop in 100° heat solo. The extra fan helped a lot.
