01 montero tail light issue

Im having trouble with my right side tail lights. The fuse controlling the circuit keeps popping. I disconnected the actual light assemblies but the fuse still blows as soon as i turn the lights on. So..short somewhere...anyone have an idea of where i should start?

Have done any work on the vehicle where you may have shifted the wire harness around? Grinding? Remove/reinstall? Drilling? Etc.

How are the grounds for the light with the issue.

Did you disconnect all the light assemblies or just the one that wasn’t working?

I havent done any work involving the harness.

I disconnected the upper and lower right side tail lights. Im under the impression those are the only lights on that circuit.

The lower is a 2 way bulb and the brake light still works.

Also, check for rust in the sockets for the bulbs.

I suppose i am looking for a short in the harness..
Fun..anyone have any insight into a suspect area to check?

Left side tail light - Wouldn't the right side tail light and both front parking lights be on the same circuit?

There are separate fuses for left and right tail lights.

The service manual should have connector locations. If it shows any connectors between the fuse and the tail light, you can disconnect the connector. That would help narrow down where to look for the short.
