Hard times have come so I'm doing what I will regret. I need money, ASAP, before we get evicted so my Jeep is going on the chopping block.
Basic info:
2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ (last year made).
-Very low mile 4.0 6cyl
-Aw4 4 speed auto
-NP231 with hackNtap
-Dana 30 LP front with open diff and 4:10 gears
-Ford 8.8 rear with open diff and 4:10 gears
Started out life as a bone stock, 2WD I bought while stationed in Germany in 2012. Drove it until I was moved to Virginia (Arlington) in 2013 and paid to have it shipped back to the states. About 2014 I got introduced to the vile 4.0 0331 cylinder head issue. Stuck in traffic, overheated, motor toast. Jeep sat for several months while I sourced a new motor. Found a low mile (+/-60k) 4.0 from an 01 that a guy was doing a motor swap. Brought it back to the shop and looked it over. As an 01 it had the same stupid cylinder head. Wasn't going to risk that again so I hit the junkyard for a better, non 0331 head. Found one, took it to the machine shop for a full build. While waiting on that I went through the entire motor. Changed every seal, gasket, timing chain, etc. In a nutshell it's a new motor with 60k on the bottom end-ish. Runs like a top.
While the drivetrain was out I scrubbed everything. Couldn't find any rust which amazed me since it was in Germany. To ensure it would remain that way I sprayed bed liner (duplicolor) EVERYWHERE underneath.
Got the motor back together and painted and put back in the Jeep. Tranny got a full flush and filter along with painted to match. (Remember this was originally 2wd. This tranny (4wd version)came from the junkyard out of a wrecked 2000 xj. Also got the transfer case from the same vehicle. T-case got a hackNtap as I didn't have time for a full SYE.
Once the drivetrain was back in with the bed lined underside looking all clean I couldn't leave the (Rubicon Express) control arms and drop brackets looking tired. Sanded and painted everything including the cross member I made and the RE drop brackets.
Exhaust got a new header (factory) for the precats as well as a new spin cat and rumbly muffler.
Front axle got new uni bearings out to rotors.(except axle u joints)
Rear got all new brakes as well.
Rear also got a brand new pair of 4" Rustys leaves to go with the shackle flip, JKs shackles, and custom airlift airbags.
Front has RE 3" ( I believe they were 3") coils and ACOS.
Front bumper is a dirtbound diy lower that I made a custom ARB-ish upper for. Holds a 9k Milemarker winch (not hooked up).
Rear bumper was all home made by me based around a piece of 2x4 1/4" tubing.
Gutted the inside to do some custom work which got a little carried away. Originally just wanted to modify the floor some. When I pulled the carpet I found some surface rust. Guess it came from snowy feet? Anyhow, couldn't stand that so it ALL got ground out and treated, primed, and bedlined.
While I was at it I removed the last half of the transmission tunnel hump to make more flat floor storage. Also reconfigured some of the front so I was able to install the much more comfortable Grand Cherokee heated leather seats.
Built a mount for the rear to hold a second battery along with a panel for the electronics for it.
Dash got an Alpine flip out touch screen and a custom panel behind the seats to hold the amps and brain box. Started installing it all and that's where life went wrong.
My Army contract ended and I got thrust into the civilian world. Had to pack up everything and move to Colorado. We got here in April and life has been nothing but speed bumps and uphill battles ever since.
So... anyone interested in more info on this Jeep, Please... ask me whatever you want. I don't bs. Will probably tell you more than you want to know about it. Good, bad, or other.
I will say it needs a new wheel adapter as the right rear one is toast. I'd fix it but don't have the hundred bucks for new ones.
Needs the front sway bar mounts fixed. It's been off road once in its entire life, its shake down run a few months ago. Managed to break the axle side mount. No money to fix it either.
Please... if your looking for a great XJ to finish as an expo rig, let me know asap. If I can't get life turned around I will probably not have an apartment after the new year. Yes, it's that bad.
I tossed out $5k as a starting number. I'd guess I have that in parts in the Jeep. Don't even want to think of the time and effort. I can haggle some or we can delete some of the extras to bring down the price. Just let me know and have cash. I don't have time to deal with scammers and such. Not the patience. Someone will get a great rig cheap..
