05+ Taco w/ topper in-bed storage box?

I am looking for a good quality plastic box that will fit against the front of the bed and come out no further than the front edge of the wheel wells. Most important - it would fit well side to side - the topper restricts me from using conventional truck bed storage. Anyone have any experience or ideas for this? I will stow seldom used gear - chain saw, tire chains, wood, etc. here and leave the rest for Max to lounge around it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check out Lowes, they have some aluminum storage boxes that are not the cross-bed type (they fit completely inside the bed and don't rest on the bed rails.) Only thing is AFAIK they're all made for full size trucks.

If that doesn't work I'd say maybe make something out of plywood. After all, it's protected by your shell, so you don't have to make it weather proof. Use 1/2" or 3/4" plywood and some heavy duty corner brackets and it will be plenty strong.

Does your topper have win-doors? If not it will be a bit of a PITA to access, I would think. Mine doesn't but that's what happens when you get your stuff off of Craigslist!

I use the Rubber Maid Action Packers. The biggest benefit is that they are modular and cheap.

I have also have an Action Packer that is almost exactly what you are looking for. They are easy to strap down and take a beating. The only reason I stopped using was because I tended to stuff the big box with things I didn't need, creating extra weight.

The Action Packers are ok, but I have ripped the handles out before by no more than pulling one out of the truck. Ideally, somthing über tough and dust proof like Pelican or Otterbox is what I am after.

I use a big action packer as well. I keep 3 batteries and recovery gear in it. I bolted it down to truck bed.

Its been great. I've had it in three other trucks before this one. The lid opens just enough to clear the over head storage bin in the leer canopy I have.

Update

Well, I have been searching all week and have found nothing to really suite what I am looking for, so I decided on something rather drastic - more on that Saturday. In the mean time, if you have an Access Cab, I have stumbled upon a stelar means of storing gear that you want to keep in the rig but need to keep somewhat organized. I just fit everything this PM and could not be more pleased. The Pelican case is of course tough and keeps the stuff inside airtight. The First Aid is an SKB case that I actually like a lot - very good seal and a superior latch system to Pelican or Otterbox.

I looked into the swing case - not overly impressed with materials and design.

I have been pleased with their performance so far.

I just bought a plastic, TRUCK TRUNK from walmart and bolted it down. It works great for what I need it for and has a lockable lid and is from what I can tell weatherproof. The only thing is that it cannot sit right up against the front of the bed or you can't open the lid. But I just use that area to string my tow rope back and forth across the bed and it is out of the way too. Oh and it was only $40. And I have a softop shell and it will open up inside.

This sounds great as I have an Access Cab too and am having trouble figuring out a good storage solution. Did you put up pics? At the end of your post where you write, For your review:, there is nothing else, at least on my computer.

Thanks,

David
