1.1 lb Oven the Size of a Cake Pan

I used to do a lot of backpacking back in the ‘70s and ‘80s. At that time, Optimus sold an item called the Optimus Mini Oven. We used this oven on backpacking and canoeing expeditions to bake numerous foods: casseroles, pizza, cinnamon rolls, and cakes of all kinds.

The oven was not available for decades. Apparently, the Swedish company that manufactured the oven for Optimus is making it again and marketing it themselves. When I bought mine in 2010, there were no U.S. distributors, so I had to order from the U.K. It is now available at many U.S. retailers for $48 to $60. The oven is identical in every way to the original except that the lid is red rather than turquoise. At the size of a cake pan and 1.1 lb. the oven is ideal for use in a small expedition vehicle.

I purchased my new oven here:

The inner pan must be greased, and the stove must be able to make a sustained burn on simmer. The oven can be used on an electric or gas cook stove. In that the hot air or combustion gases circulate to the top and heat the food from above, fuels such as white gasoline and propane are preferable, while leaded gasoline and high sulfur diesel are not appropriate. I personally would stay away from kerosene or diesel altogether. Google Omnia Oven to find U.S. retailers.

That is a very cool oven, have not seen that one before.

I have had a Foxhill single stove since 1990 when they first made them that has served me well that uses a cake pan.

That Omnia is a cool little oven. But it looks like it does not have a thermometer?

On Corey's recommendation I have been using the Fox Hill oven. Works great, but it is a little bulky.

Might look into the BEMCO as it fold flat. EDIT: Just watched the setup video, think I will be staying with my Fox Hill.

You are correct: no thermometer. When backpacking, we always lift the lid for a moment, stick a small straw down into the center, then check it for stickiness. Due to its weight, I find it the best choice for backpacking (I was a professional guide), but it is only an alternative when it comes to expedition vehicle camping. When you have to carry everything on your back, every ounce matters; when a vehicle carries the gear, you have a bit more leeway.
