1 Bored Clerk's DIY Camper

I've been working on a project for my wife along with the camper for the last several weeks. I've decided to just hammer down on my wife's project to finish it up this week so I can get back to the camper full time.

I do still have an update. I finally unwrapped these bad boys

Bask in their 60", 500lb capacity, full-extension glory! These are the slides for the drawers in the bottom of the camper. I bought these a while ago but, for some reason, I never bothered to open them. Stupid, I know, but maybe I just didn't feel like wrestling 80lbs of drawer slide. Haha. I could have used 250lb slides (or less) but I like the extra headroom in capacity and overall 'beefiness' of the heavy slides for off road abuse. It was worth the weight penalty to me.

I opened these up so I could get all of my hardware purchased. My next step on the camper is setting the hardware for the slides in the box so I need the hardware.

Wife's project table is done!

Took two old IKEA bookcases that had seen better days and built a frame around them. Sturdy and decent looking.

Now, back to the camper! I'll do a full garage clean and re-org tomorrow night so I'll have a clean space to get back to work in.

Looks great.

Easiest high amp solar I have used/ installed for clients is solbian all in one systems. Very lightweight, easily set up with removable mounting and a real mppt charge controller is built into the panel.

Definitely worth getting mppt if you do go solar.

Looks great so far, nice job on the bookcase recycle.

In addition to it being fun building stuff you get the extra payoff of being a rockstar to the wife. The ultimate investment.:)

Haha, yes. Huge motivator!

Thanks for the recommendation. If solar doesn't go on this camper, it'll surely go on the next (bigger) one.

Drawer slides are happening!

Getting the mounting locations and anchors figured out for the very long slides.

Epoxy everywhere. Hardware is embedded in epoxy and I put in an epoxy fillet in a spot that would have been a hassle once these are epoxied in place in the camper.

Now I need to do the same for the outer slides.

More slide work.

Pitch the camper up on its side to force gravity to do my work holding for me.

But use ratchet straps to make sure gravity doesn't undo my work, dramatically.

Epoxy first slide spacer in. Left slide bolted to it so that everything stays nice and flat.

Started working on the mounts for another slide. No spacers needed.

Leave to cure. I covered it all with a tarp and put my electric/oil radiator heater under there. Works pretty well.

Once cured, flip the camper to the other side and lay in the next slide and spacer. And drill/epoxy the mounts for the last slide.

Epoxy seal the backside of the slide mounts where they poke through the shell. This will completely seal them from the elements. This entire area will be glassed over as well. The blue painters tape has worked really well for me. I use it to cover epoxy until it cures so that it doesn't get all over my tarp or anything else. It peels right off then you can sand the surface nice and flat/smooth.

It's under the tarp with its heater again tonight. One more round of epoxy and tarp and all the slides will be in. Then I'll go over everything I can get my hands on and fillet it. Probably a lot of sanding too. I can get a good working angle on everything by flipping the camper up on either side. Better do it all now before I start adding walls!

Try wax paper over the epoxy. Set it over the wet epoxy then smooth out the epoxy through the wax paper. This also allows you to feather out the edges. Once cured peel off the wax paper.

Yeah, I noticed that trying to smooth the epoxy was a little troublesome without it pulling some with it. Wax paper over the top, then smooth. Of course! Haha, thanks again, Gunner.

All edges are or will be radiused to make sure the glass will make the bends. Inside and outside bends. It's time consuming but necessary.

Fillets all day, every day.

Finished embedding all of the drawer slide mounting hardware so it's now time to lay all of the inside radius fillets with thickened epoxy. Thickened with colloidal silica in case you were wondering. So easy to get a lot done at a time...which feels nice.

This thread is great, I appreciate all of the boat building techniques that you're using to keep water out of the plywood. Keep up the good work!
