11' Grand Cherokee

I owned a WJ Overland for awhile and liked it, great street ride/gravel offroader. Would have been very capible with a locker and larger tires. So I see the 2011 GC has all the features I love on the newer Rovers but its also American made. My question is, how American made? Engine and tranny made here? You can nail anything together here and call it American but I dont count it unless its almost all American. I love the fact that it has EAS and there version of terrain response. I am seriously considering one if its truely American made.

The 2011 Grand Cherokee body/chassis is built in Detroit. The 3.6L engine is built elsewhere in Michigan. The transmission comes from a plant in Indiana. So the GC is constructed in USA.

A second engine plant is being developed in Mexico to increase production of the V6, which will be used in many Chrysler products. Eventually the Wrangler will receive the new V6, too. For now, Indiana is the sole source of the V6.

The Grand Cherokee was designed while Chrysler and Mercedes were partners. A lot of the design is shared with the Mercedes ML series SUVs. Ditto the new V6. So saying that the Grand Cherokee is "American" is only telling part of the story. I'm not complaining, just saying that if you want to wave the stars and stripes over the Grand, then you could just as easily say the Honda Accord or Toyota Tacoma or VW Jetta are "American" vehicles. The Accord, Jetta and Tacoma are designed with help from foreign companies, and all are "made in USA."

Most vehicles sold in USA are built with components made in Canada, USA and Mexico. Most of the electronic sub-assemblies come from Asia somewhere because they are light enough to ship economically across the Pacific.

From your title I thought you were trying to build an 11 foot Cherokee. That works out to what, a 121" wheelbase? Sounds about right...

LeoLR,

The '11 Grand Cherokee designed, engineered, and tested in Auburn Hills, MI, Chelsea, MI, and Yucca, AZ by a proud group of Americans (myself included!). It is assembled in the last remaining automotive assembly plant in the city of Detroit, Jefferson North Assembly Plant. The 3.6L V-6 is also made in Michigan. The 5.7L V-8 however is made in Mexico. The transmision is made in Indiana.

You can also look on the window sticker to see the % of US made content.

Thank you for considering our new Grand Cherokee, you won't be disappointed!
