12v connection in Rear Cargo Area of GX

Hello All,

I need to mount a 12v connection in the cargo area of my GX. It needs to be constant so I can run my fridge. Has anyone done this in the GX or 4R? I understand what I need to do, just would like some pic's to get me started.

We did this to my FJ Cruiser, same thing pretty much would apply to your rig.
I use mine for running the ARB fridge.

Thats kinda overkill... which is cool, but for a single constant power source some 14/2 wire with an inline fuseable link with the right amp fuse and shore plug will do just fine for your fridge considering it only pulls 1-1.5 amps on the fridge setting. Thats how mine has been running for the last 2 years and thats how AT trailers were wired for the fridges also in the past... So far so good :sombrero: Remember your plug may have a fuse, plus the fridge fuse along with your fuseable link is plenty of overload protection.

I am going to use an Add-A-Circuit for the plug in back. I just need to know which fuse will give me constant power. Does anyone know which fuse in the interior fuse box will give me contant power?

You can use a test light find a constant hot fuse but I would not recommend running your fridge off another fuse. Personally I would run a length of wire to the battery and use a heavy duty in-line fuse. Just my opinion.

Right now I am running 12 gauge wire. The plug has an in-line fuse (10amp)in it. I have it ground to metal attached to the frame. Do you think this would work with running it directly to the battery? Do you think 12 gauge is enough? Please let me know if I am forgetting anything.

Yes 12 gauge wire will work fine, I used 14 gauge on mine but I only had a two foot legnth. I know some people tend to go overkill with heavy wire but your fridge doesn't draw very much current. My Engel has a thermal fuse in the plug and the inline fuse I connected it to and I also grounded to the frame.

Thanks for the help. I got everything done today. It looks great. I will try and make a test run this weekend to test it out.

I did end up changing my Battery. The heat plus all the work killed my factory one. I think 5 years is pretty good life for a factory battery. I went with the DieHard Platium.
