I have one of these mounted on each side of my FWC. Ebay, Pep Boys or JC Whitney have them.

Thanks Pat, running into a snag.

Today I popped open the tent and hooked up the new box to the battery.
That extra alloy lid that came with the box worked out like I thought it would.
It wedged in between the mattress and holds the box up.

I plugged in the 12 tent light and it works in any of the three outlets.
But as soon as I plugged in the 12 v bunk pad warmer, BAM!, it blows the 30 amp fuse up by the battery.
This was with the tents light running too, and I would imagine the light can not be pulling over 1/2 amp?
The warmer pad pulls 7 amps max or so.

I am suspecting the pad is defective or the plug is.
I did not have time to investigate it further, but I will be ordering a 12v extension cord that goes right to the battery, and I will see what happens when I plug the bunk pad directly to it.
If it blows, I will cut off the bunk pad cigg plug and wire in a new one.

I do not think it can be my wiring of the box, as I mentioned all three sockets worked when I tested out the tents light.

Ahh Damn..that friggin sux..

I'm thinking short in the plug or wired wrong..couple things..the light is pulling milliamps..would have zero effect..

1) did you try to plug it directly into the plug in the back of the FJ..I'm sure it must be rated for at least 10amps? It should say what the where the fuse is located in the Owners Manuel, in case it blows that one too.

2) do you have the controller turned to the low position so it's not taking a direct blast (although if it's only pulling 7amps I can't imagine it blowing the 30 (which btw coulde be bad too) so start with the low setting and work your way up

I would start with the shortest possible run and work out from there, if it's still blowing the CB..me, personally, I would NOT cut a new plug in (they may claim you voided the warranty by fooling with it). I'd pack it up and ship it back.

We're setting up for graduation this week, so I'm crazy, and I'm driving down to PA. tomorrow to take my Mother out for lunch...but I'll check back,,good luck

The rear of the FJ is a custom wire job by me and another guy, not factory.
I believe I have a 15 amp fuse for it in the BlueSea aux. box up front.

The cord from the pad will not reach the 12v outlet in the back of the rig.

I started with the blanket turned off, then turned it to the one position.

What I will do is order the last two items on this page.

Plug the pad into the 12 foot cord, then that into the 2 foot cord right to the battery and see what happens.
If I can find a 20 foot socket/alligator clip combo cord I will do that, but it looks like I may have to spring for both cords.

Or I could get one of those socket/cigg lighter cords too, and then just plug into the back of the FJ where the ARB fridge is.
If the fuse blows up in the BlueSea aux. box, then the pad is bad.

I wish I would have tested the pad before putting it under my sheets and all.
Oh well, I do not need it until next winter anyways, it was for winter camping.

Corey,

Again..my concern is the fact that it blew a 30 amp to begin with.

I wouldn't run anything off of 18# except maybe a phone charger or a couple of LED lights, especially 12' long.

I like the second option, plug into the Bluesea box. At least you can determine if it's the pad (by blowing the fuse again on an already known "good" circut). I'm sure it's a pain in the MMM to pull the pad (I'm betting it must provide the neighbors endless hours of enjoyment watching you balance on the ladder 7' in the air) If it is the pad it should go back anyway.

What I would NOT do is plug the pad directly into the battery without some fusible link, if in fact the blanket or controller is bad, without a fuse blowing it could be, well...:campfire: exciting...

Thanks.
Yeah, no need for a pre campfire :D

It will be awhile before I get a chance to pull the pad.
It is a major PITA when you have fitted sheets on top of it, and trying to balance yourself halfway out the door way up in the air putting the sheets back on again.
