For that amount of cash the .50 cal and the water cooled MG better work!
Cool flat fender though.

I hope the amount was a typo like the ' 1951 ' must have been.
I'm no Jeep expert but for that 1/3 that money you would expect everything to be correct. 1917 has wrong mount and wrong finish. Rifle mount is in incorrect location, paint is incorrect, etc

Appears to me to be a case of guys getting caught up in the moment and being separated from their money.

The posted article has nothing in it about what makes this specific example worth the money. It appears to just be a M38. If it was something significant like perhaps MacArthur's Jeep in Korea or something like that I could see justification for the price tag provided full documentation was provided.

There's decent examples of these Jeeps out there for about 1/10th that price. Not restored like this one or with the air powered toy guns but as long as it isn't rusty and in good working order (compression, brakes, etc) a Jeep is a Jeep IMO.

Not even a military issued Jeep. The Military MBs had recessed head lights for war time driving. (I'm guessing it was to make it harder to spot from the air.)
Lotta folks with too much money and too little time.

The M38s were like CJ2as and had the non recessed headlights. You can see the headlamp protecter bars on them that sort of hep them keep from getting bashed by limbs and whatnot.

104k though- that better be a prototype or Chesty Puller's personal jeep or the m1917 and M2 better be real and transferrable or something. I mean I know there were less than 50,000 M38s made but but even still they aren't that rare imho.

Exactly! There's like one or two, maybe more, real ex-US M38s (and 1 CDN spec IIRC) in my local club alone so they aren't that rare.

They also sold a restored Commando (early 70's I think) for $80,000. Believe it belonged to a country music star. I guess that raised the "value".

I saw a LandCruiser owned by said country music star at said car show. Had a GM engine transplant. Ugh.

I also saw that "jeep" in person, sub-par IMHO.

I'm thinking of putting in my 4cyl 1996 Ford Probe for auction next year.

The Lot #37 Blazer Chalet sold for $9,350; it was missing its front driveshaft, and from the looks of the caked grease / dirt on the t-case & front axle yokes, it hadn't been there for a long length of time.:Wow1:

I think it is a gross mistake to accept a Barrett-Jackson price as anything but fiction. What ever the article under discussion is only worth a B-J sale price then and there, and not anywhere else.
