1959 series 11 swb Land Rover

1959 Series 11 swb Land Rover with safari roof, Body off rebuild & galvanized frame (2003), 2.25 gas engine(works well, bottom end rebuilt 03), warn hubs,16 inch wheels,kodiak heater,series 111 booster brakes,hand throttle, driven 1500 mi in 6 years. Needs park brake shoes & seal. Seats tatty, could use new 2nd synchro. Spare series 11A trans. can go with. Always garaged.
Price; $8000 cdn. Located in Halifax, Canada.

You are right, I forgot. I was so used to driving it that way with the 59 transmission. It had a countershaft bearing failure several years ago & I changed the box for an early 11A that has the larger countershaft & bearing.

Nice truck either way!

I am not sure I understand. All SII and all but the very last SIIa transmissions are "crash boxes" without a 1st or second gear synchro. The truck looks quite nice and is similar to my 1959 SII "noah" -- no a, get it?

What is involved in bringing this Rover into the USA in terms of proceedures and money?

It looks in good shape- where is the rust and how bad is it?

As far as procedures & money, I don't know. U.S. Customs & Border could tell you. Perhaps someone on the forum has knowledge of this as well. On the Canadian side, I spoke to Canada Border& Customs & nothing is required on this side.
Rust wise, there are the typicall spots,a couple of spots where the tub braces attach,I can send you pic's, overall not much.Bulkhead & doors rebuilt, new pieces welded in door bottoms, again, I have pictures & you can see for yourself. It is really easy to import because it is more than 25 years old. All you have to do is pay some small percentage as an import duty (2-3% IIRC) and fill out some forms. Not hard at all, but it has been about 6 years since I have done it so I am fuzzy on details. :elkgrin:

It's cake to bring one in. Proof of manufacture date, bill of sale, some customs forms, one EPA exemption form, your checkbook and two ID's.
Just got a Stage I in last week- it was easy. :victory:

Still got this one in mind, thinking of moving some things to make it possible- is it up for a trip or is this something that should be shipped? The trip I have in mind is the speed cat to Maine and then a slow(ish) non-interstate trip down the eastern seaboard to NC.

I just happen to pop in. I just answered that question to a fellow in Quebec. My opinion would be ship it as it is a 50 yr old truck. Having said that, it does run well and I think it would be possible. As you say, secondary roads, moderate speeds. It is possible for me to meet you in Yarmouth at the ferry with the truck.
